Thanks for starting this Dutch. I am looking forward to this year more than most. While the Tigers have fielded a very talented team recently, I believe this team better reflects my opinion of the way the game should be played. They also should better utilize the stadium they play in.

The good news is, barring major injuries, they should again compete for the division title. If they are able to do that, I like their chances to win it all.

Who to watch in Lakeland (for me):
Rajai Davis- it will be interesting to see how his speed can affect games.
Kinsler- I'm not sure he is the ideal lead-off candidate so I want to see how he handles himself there.
Castellanos- I know he has the skills but will he be pressing?
Ausmus- I'm just curious to see what type of tone he sets in the clubhouse.

This years Tiger team looks to be more balanced, a little less power. but speed and defence through out the lineup, the things a lot of guys ragged about most of last season.
I like Miggy at first and Nick C at third. Iggy all year at SS and Kinsler at second.....speed and range. I liked the OF last season and like it better this year. Dirks is healthy and will we see what he really is....I bet better than last....lots of stuff to like about this team and for sure some questions but way more upside....

I gotta say I love how the Tigers are ran!

A great team and they roll the dice by moving Fielder because they saw trouble down the road with contracts. Got decent value in return.

Hire Brad Ausmus when every other GM would have taken a proven commodity like Dusty Baker! Solid but unspectacular. Think big and go for the big return. BA may not succeed as a manager but he is the high risk high reward guy I think good teams roll the dice on.

Even though I didn't like the Fister trade it was a bold move. I have soften my stance some when I heard the Nats turned down he same trade a month earlier not wanting to get rid of Ray.

I agree about Fielder. The genius part of the deal wasn't unloading Fielder, it was unloading Fielder without decimating the team's short term chances.

I heard The Nats turned down a trade that involved Porcello and Ray but this is the first I have heard they ever turned down Fister. I have heard that the Tigers turned it down with other players involved. If RR turns out to be a #4 starter for 3-4 years (average team, not Tigers), the deal will be worth it because of the $$$$$'s

Fact is, if the Tigers win the WS once in the next 2-3 years, fans will love the deal regardless. If not......well, the whiners will unload on Krol, Ray, or Lombardozzi depending on whomever is most convenient.

That's a fans right, to bitch and complain or praise and brag....If it's good then all hail DD, if it's bad changes need to be made........Why else would anyone be on a sports board?

I think Lombardozzi will be in the starting lineup more than it may seem.

Muzz got to give DD the benefit of the doubt as he has fleeced more teams in trades than he has been fleeced just ask the 70 different GM's or the M's who took a Chance, a Charlie and a Casper for a Dougie who or the Fish who got a Cameron and a Andrew for a Cabbie. Time will tell but I got an inkling that it will end up being a good one.

Sorry I heard that on the radio. I also heard that Fister, Porcello, and Scherzer had been shopped and nobody really wanted to give up what the Tigers wanted. Everyone probably wanted to trade big contracts away and average prospects.

The Red Sox used a different blue print last year and teams likes it. Good players at manageable contracts and better bench guys that cost a little more but are not long term investments. Gotta say I will be interested in what the Tigers do with Scherzer. I do not think he is going to be resigned to a long term deal. Ray may be his replacement and that 22 million dollars a year will help offset Miggy's future deal and sign a couple quality guys.

jd, I can't see the Tigers signing Scherzer to a long term deal unless he takes a "home town discount" and that hardly sounds like a Boras client.
Robbie Ray IS his replacement, at least in the hopeful eyes of DD.
Miggy will be 33 when the '16 season begins. I don't know how loyal the Tigers will be to him for past performance. Obviously, a lot will depend on how healthy he is this year. If he has another great year the Tigers might sign him to a 3-4 year extension at $25/yr but I can see them going out longer than that. My advice would be to enjoy Miggy the next two years.

Krol is a lefty specialist that has had some decent success for his limited time in the MLB. Lombardozzi is an upgrade over Santiago. DD is trying to build the back end of the roster. I think having a stronger 18-25 spots will have a huge impact on the team in general.

The Tigers have had achilles heels the past few seasons and no team is perfect I think DD is limiting the Tigers weak spots by a better overall roster. The roster going into this season is more versatile and the weaknesses of base running and defense have been greatly improved while power may have taken a small hit the overall athleticism of this team is better IMO.

I think having a guy like Rajai Davis does exactly that. He provides a right handed bat with tremendous speed that will most often be coming off the bench. I love the versatility he will provide. I don't love the idea of him being a full-time left fielder if something goes awry with Dirks.

Ill be honest, Im probably negatively biased toward both...because I dont think trading stud pitchers for mediocre players is ever a good idea.

I agree. I am moving on and hoping DD knew something. He did identify Scherzer as a top young pitcher as well as Fister. So I have faith Ray will follow suit.

I never believe following another teams blue print is a good idea. But I like a better 1-25 like the Red Sox than how the Tigers were built last year.

I agree with Jalopy Davis adds a late inning SB threat and defensive replacement. Although hate the idea he would be more than a platoon guy if needed to be.
