Danny Watkins fought fires while he was an Eagle

MMQB has a pretty good story on Watkins. It doesn't say anything we don't know--the guy's heart was not in it. But the story has some amusing details I at least didn't know. Did you guys know he actually fought fires in Philly while employed by the Eagles? He would sneak away and work with some unit. It was apparently more exciting and interesting to him than playing pro football. He didn't care about money and just didn't try very hard.

Mike Mamula can rest easy now.

Mamula was an OK football player who was overdrafted by three rounds. Watkins was a guy who never should have been drafted because he didn't want to play football.

Im kinda torn... I respect the guy for wanting to serve the public in what I think is one of the few honorable public service jobs still out there...

But on the other, he stole money and fucked up our draft when he knew he didnt want to play.

Embarrassing we made that mistake. I wonder how much Howie had to do with that horrific pick.

Watkins is an asshole. Lied to everybody, took the money and proceeded to basically fuck off for three years in the league.

Can't say I wouldn't do the same if I were in his shoes though.

It was the Eagles who picked and paid him, but most scouts rated him as a high pick as well. It was Reid, not Howie that made the pick. Howie took the fall. We're in better hands now with Tom Gamble leading the way in scouting.

He is yet another example of a guy who looked great in the Senior Bowl then sucked after we drafted him.

Trevor Laws, Watkins, Victor Abiamiri, Reggie Brown...they generally turned out to be bad selections.

Foles meanwhile had a supposedly bad week of practices.
