Well, the NBA screws the Mavs again. No big shocker there. That call that Conley drew to shoot the winning free throws with 1.1 seconds left was a total joke. He just goes barreling into the lane out of control and they call a shooting foul on Vince Carter who had his back turned and was just trying to avoid all contact. Not a single Mavs player made any attempt to foul him... a total bs call and because of it the Mavs have to play San Antonio in round 1 instead of OKC.

The Mavs are screwed....... San Antonio is going to pull off a sweep. However, I think the Mavs played well enough to entice a good player or two to come next year in free agency. I hope the Mavs have learned their lesson. Dallas isn't a "destination" city like LA, Miami, or New York. The Mavs have to target second tier free agents. Guys like Luol Deng and Marcin Gortat would help this team immensely. I think they would win 55-60 games if they signed both of those players and kept the core in tact. The silver lining is that the bottom feeders in the east beat the Bulls and Raptors tonight so the Mavs will be able to hand over their draft pick to OKC. This team can't draft worth a shit anyway, and the only thing they know how to do is to hit up bad teams heading for the lottery and take a good player or two in exchange for draft picks. Now the mavericks are free to do just that. Still a pretty good season tho, the west was just brutal behind comprehension this year.

I don't think Dallas had a chance against OKC either. The jury is still out on Dallas not being a destination team. Dallas is always in the conversation but it hasn't happened just yet. In reality they haven't been in the best position to land them. That being said they'll need to at least try improve through the draft but that's the one sport where you really probably aren't getting a whole lot after the first 5-7 picks if that.

Tell that to the Spurs, Thunder, or Trail Blazers...... Hell I think Miami drafted Chalmers there starting PG late in the first round. The Mavs player development and scouting is flawed.

The Mavs didn't have much of a chance against either SA or OKC. But that wasn't my point. My point was that the refs screwed them out of the win against Memphis. It was a total BS call and one made simply to placate the Memphis crowd and piss off Cuban. Conley was way out of control and not a single Mav made any effort to get in his way as he came smashing into the lane without control of the ball.

I never thought the Mavs had a realistic shot at advancing very far in the playoffs. Their defense is terrible. But hell, they at least earned the right to play OKC over San Antonio and maybe steal a game or two.

In other more positive Mavs news, they have finally paid off their debt from the disastrous Lamar Odom trade. Mavs owed the Thunder a first round pick outside of the top 20 and they finished with the 10th best record, meaning they can give their 21st overall pick to OKC this year. Finally they can sweep up the mess from that trade and move on.

Actually from the outside the toughest fits for the Spurs would have been Memphis and for OKC the Mavs because if their style of play. So it looks like it turned out best for SA and OKC.

What a joke. 10 point lead with around 6 to go, and we missed our next 11 shots to close out the game. That was our chance in this series to catch them off guard and steal one. I'll be surprised if we're not swept.

It wasn't even the Spurs defense either. The Mavs missed way too many wide open shots.

Incredible game today! Now if a few of the Mavs (Dirk in particular) would even put forth a minimal amount of effort on defense, they could actually win this series. I went back and watched the replay of the game on my DVR and I skipped over every Mavs possession. I just wanted to really focus on what causes them to give up do many easy points. Obviously not having a lot of good defenders is a big part of it. But it's not the only problem. What I saw when I focused in on certain players and not the ball was a lazy effort on many possessions. I know all NBA teams are guilty of this and get complacent on defense to a certain degree. But man, do the Mavericks really just stand and watch a lot on defense. Dirk is my all-time favorite player, but he really does take a lot of breaks on defense. The other thing which was noticeable was that Dalembert doesn't come out far enough when the Spurs run the high pick and roll at the top of the key. Whichever Mavs guy is guarding the ball handler gets picked (usually by Duncan). The ball handler then has free access to the lane because Dalembert hasn't shown out high enough. When Chandler was with the Mavs, they defended that high pick and roll to perfection in the playoffs. The Lakers tried to run it for Kobe and Chandler would be there immediately to pick up Kobe when Marion got picked. Kobe had nowhere to go and certainly no free pass into the lane. I wish the Mavs now would send out more defenders to immediately press and guard both Spurs involved in the pick and roll.

I was at a restaurant when Vince made that shot. They went crazy. What an improbable shot it was too.

I was too, Several obnoxious Spurs fans, slapping their wrists everytime a Spur was shooting and complaining and talking shit, while I sat and just watched quietly

When Vince hit that shot, I got up and celebrated and I could hear the Spurs fans say "Mavs fans are so obnoxious"

Right on the money with the pick and roll, barely anyone ever picks up the cutter and many times they just get an easy basket

I still think San Antonio will win the series, but nobody expected the Mavs to be up 2-1 at this point.

I think whoever wins the next game will win the series. I don't see the Spurs beating us 3 times in a row, and if they take back home court advantage we might be in trouble.
