And please don't use Brady's salary as a measurment stick, as no other QBs have wife's worth 400 MILLION.

Man I hear you, but I will still use Brady's number because if the fact that his wife is worth $400 million means that they have enough money that is doesn't matter, then Dak making $25 million per which would be $250-300 million in Texas....which has no state income tax.....not to mention the endorsement money he makes, and the fact that the last two career Cowboys QB's have 20 year gigs making millions per year as lead analysts....he ain't gonna be hurting for money either

In a cap world every player has a max you can pay them. It's just life in a salary cap sport and something those who run Football teams must deal with and many fans have the luxury of being blind to. The main reason I think giving Dak $30M plus this year would be a mistake is because we just don't have to yet. He is a young QB who still has a year left on his contract. Why commit $150M in cap space to him before you have to. But this team (whether you agree or disagree) has already hitched their future to Dak. So if at this point it's $30M/year this year or $35M/year next year do we just pull the trigger now?

The guy that i always compared Dak to was RW: their playing style, their leadership qualities, the way they are viewed, etc. Remember that RW was viewed as a bus driver that only won because of his defense after his 3rd year and many didn't give him much credit for what he accomplished and instead qualified it based on other strengths of his team. To me both did exactly what was asked of them in their first 3 years. As time went on RW was asked to do more and more and proved who he was. I think Dak can do a lot more if asked to do a lot more, as well.

Dak deserves to be the QB here for the next 7-8 years. Stephen has talked many times lately about how he understands that all players have the right to ask for as much money as the market demands, but that the Cowboys sales pitch to their young stars is that if they all take just a little less than their market, they could keep more of their good young players and have a stronger team in the long run. He is right. No one is saying Dak HAS to take less money, but most of the older players who have been in the league a long time and have made their money become desperate to get a Ring. A Super Bowl Championship can easily be the difference between being remembered as a really good player or a Hall of Fame player(see Tony Romo/Troy Aikman).

To me...Darren Woodson is one of the most respected Cowboys ever. I think as an NFL analyst he's spot on most all the time. Yesterday Woody was on a local radio show talking about Dak. He mentioned that he has an office at the Star and watches all the workouts. Woody said he was around many great leaders in his playing days, but he's never seen a better leader of a football team than Dak. He said he was 100% sure Dak will win a championship here in Dallas.

Now I read this thread about fans questing the amount of money Dak should make and talking about all the talent around him as if the cowboy QB could be just about anyone. What a joke this seems to me. This shows no regard to leadership skills (something Romo only figured out his last couple of seasons) nor the decisions made with the football, mush less not beating yourself with mistake after mistake but throwing for 325 plus yards as if that's the metric for good QB play.

Put me with Woody with regards to Dak Prescott....It's about leadership playing QB in the NFL and he's second to none. Every player on this team loves Prescott and believe he's got what it takes to win a championship. Championships count!!
I give a rats ass if he's paid 28M, 30M or even 35M. It's about winning and I think far to many Cowboy fans have lost sight of that and just regurgitate what they hear from the media heads who most likely never snapped a helmet on past the Jr. High level, if that.

He knows far more about what it takes to hold that position and I’ll stick with his opinion when it comes to what he sees in the current room. To “hope” a player would take a little less “for the good of the team” is nonsense. And - not understanding that a significant part of that $30M involves the leadership Dak brings to the table is nonsense as well.

Stephen is naive and trying a ploy. No player who has yet to make any money is taking less than they can get and I don't expect them to and I wouldn't either. We are all very selfless when it comes to other people's money. Dak has made less money in his lifetime (ignoring commercials) than me. I expect him to strike while he can and protect himself, his kids and his kids kids and set all of them up for life.

The onus is on the team to decide what a player is worth and sometimes that means letting them walk and/or tagging them if they don't agree and every player has that value. You can't just pay a player whatever they want because they are good or even great. Many fans are short sighted and just say sign whomever and don't take the long term cap into account. ET would have been great here and we all know that but some just say sign him whatever it took without caring about the cap and without realizing it's another player or two that is already here that we can't resign because of it. Others would give Dak $40M or Lawrence $30M because they are good players that help the team and they have the luxury of ignoring the financial side of it. The team understands how dumb that would be long term, but at the same time knows they have a good young core group of players and are trying their best to keep as many of them as they can while adding more talent to try to win a Championship.

I think if our young players develop and we have luck with health we have a shot in the next couple of years and hope we can keep as many of these guys together as possible. With Dak at $25M-$28M I thought we could resign everyone but Collins and he is replaceable. Now that Dak is coming in a little higher (around $30M?) than that I think there is another guy we will have to let go too. But that is just how it works. You can't be afraid to let guys go and replace them through the draft or with cheaper FAs. Many better teams do it all the time. Hopefully Dak is one we can hold onto. You pick and choose which guys you can fit under the cap that give you the best chance because the team is more important than any one player. Next man up.

Salary paid to employees will make a difference when things get out of balance. Example your star QB RB and LT get over 40% of the allotted pie in a given year leaving 60% to fund the rest of the team. If you can fine the right talent with the 60% left willing to work for that amount you can be fine barring major injury etc.
In the NFL today it’s really about cheap labor influx to allow over funding to a select few to keep the ship moving forward. IMHO this formula will change in the next CBA just like the rookie wage scale changed everything the last time. Smart teams figured out the loopholes in the system just like anything else when seeking a competitive legal advantage.
The key is evaluating talent acquiring it and placing proper talent in place along with hard work superior coaching and a little bit of Lady luck smiling on you once in awhile. If all the above falls in place you win Championships. Sounds simple right?
Well When you look at any of the sports dynasty’s since the 60’s you will find the formula is simple, implementation of said formula is very hard and once found staying on top is even harder.

With all that said Dak is going to get paid the going rate for QB’s in the NFL. It does not matter if we agree or disagree with whatever that number will be or if we think he is worth it. Teams with at least a decent QB will pay because the alternative is way to scary for most to face if they even hope to be competitive.

You get it....The Cowboys most certainly will pay Dak based on his leadership of men on a football team much more so than him being a top 5 QB stat wise. It's funny so many here can't see that and want to compare him to Romo. Romo far and away had better skill sets throwing a football...he also made killer plays that got his team beat. His leadership matured but he certainly excluded many on the team when he was up and coming star. Woodson went on about how nobody had issues with Dak and how Dak went outta his way with all players on the team building relationships. Woody said guys on the defensive side of the ball loved Dak as much as the offensive guys and how rare that is. That is a rare quality to find in a person. Russell Wilson is a true leader of men by example and work ethic but he did not have the relationship with defensive guys the way Dak seems to....which is why I think Woodson said he's never seen a better leader than Dak

In short....I think many Cowboy fans do not realize how special Prescott is as a person and leader and will only come around with a championship. The Romo ball washers will never come around which is comical and somewhat sad. I cheer for the laundry and want another Super Bowl championship for this storied franchise more than anything else. Woody strongly believes we have the perfect leader to accomplish that, which is more than good enough for me.

I disagree....the money is only going to go up if you wait. I think the Jones know that. If Wentz signs first at say 33 to 35M per, then they know full well Dak will get just under that, which will cost them more than signing him now. I think it's better to lock him up now and make a statement to your team that you believe in this guy as much as they do.

It's not my money, and if it delivers a championship, IMO it's money well spent

As you have eluded too. Cowboys either sign Dak or start from scratch. That is just not going to happen. So they will sign him anyways at whatever the cost.
I would rather sign him for 210 mil. now than 250 mil. or so later.
so sign him now to his extension. Then we are still paying him is same base pay now just with a signing bonus. So we are not losing out on what he would be paid this year. Just locking him up now vs. later when it costs more.

You may be right, I am just not 100% sold on Dak. However, I also dont see a better option. I see how signing him now would be cheaper, but I would roll the dice on him this year. That is just me.

I'm not sure it will be 7 years but it absolutely will be 5 or more because 5 is the maximum # of years that you can split the signing bonus over so no way it's less than 5 years

I honestly don't know but Dak has only made $2M so far in his career. I'm assuming that Dirk made a lot more than that before he gave the Mavs a discount and the guy has been earning NBA dollars for 20 years

That's true, but Dak will Man ever much as Dirk in the end. Man I love Dak and I'm good with $35 million per, just better for him and the team on the field if he doesn't

As we know... the price of QB’s in the NFL NEVER goes down. The sooner his deal gets done the better for the Cowboys and the sooner we all move on the the next QB that fans don’t believe is worth $30M.
