Well, McKenzie tweeted around 9 that Lou was in Toronto meeting with Zach and his agent last night and Zach will decide within the hour whether he even wants to test UFA or just sign. Fingers crossed, but not feeling good about it.

In 25 minutes we will know if he will test the FA market. I think the decision was already made and at 10 there will be an announcement.

What is the absolutely best offer you guys would make to Zack? Me, can't be more than 8.5 cap hit per year. 8-10 years. Give him no trade clause if he wants.

Also I see all these reports about teams like Penguins will give him a 12 million dollar signing bonus etc. Isn't this illegal? Unless its just rumors.

Signing bonus doesn't count against the cap or anything just simply a shit load of cash you can drop on a players lawn and hope he signs

Yea and the Devils reportedly have financial problems. I went from optimistic few days ago to now thinking its more likely he is gone.

Isn't teh signing bonus spread across the length of the contract?? I know they count in other sports, just gives more guaranteed money in football.

I think it gets added to year 1 of the contract. The only thing is it doesnt go against the Kovy amendment put in place in 2010.
So if Parise is getting 10 million bonus and let's say 8 million in year one, it's 18 million in year one. Then you just average out the remaining years and that's the cap hit.

More likely scenario is 10 million signing bonus and like a 2 million salary in year 1. Total salary year 1 is 12. Player is happy because money is up front. Team structures contract to lower total cap hit as much as possible.

Folks, our captain wants to stay. JVB either has the cash, or he doesn't.

Can't see why Lou flies up there if he knows he doesn't have the cash. I'm sure he has an idea after a week of negotiations what they are looking for. Could be about the long term financial stability as much as the $$$. I'm sure he doesn't want to sign a 10 year deal and watch us have a fire sale 2 years in

Knowing this was coming, if Lou couldn't get a deal done by now he's gone. He's gonna sell out like Nieds did, can't believe it. What to do with my white #9 Parise jersey now.....?

It really is a common sense move, that pretty much anybody would make. Would've been nice to have him signed but I don't think this means he's gone.

July 1 is a day I never look forward to, it's almost always a bad day for Devils fans.

should never have gone this far.

also i believe beek has the money....if he doesnt he knows he has to find it somewhere because not signing zach sets this team back big time and all those fans that signed up this year from the playoff run? kiss them goodbye next spring.

welcome to nj....where we dont extend or open contract talks until 2 days before UFA. so sad it really is....this team would be solid as all hell if we kept some talent

i also DO NOT WANT TO HEAR about the devils not being able to match those offers.

THIS SHIT SHOULDVE BEEN DONE A LONG TIME AGO! THE PENS SHOULDNT EVEN BE ABLE TO MAKE AN OFFER!!!!!!!

if they locked parise up before then no one couldve offered him an insane contract! much like gomez!!!!! was gomez worth all that money? no but thats not the point...if you have the exclusive rights to talk before anyone else? use it! so you dont have to worry about a team throwing 50 million at a guy

Didn't we outbid Ducks for Nieds?? Hard to say he sold out when his brother was the reason he moved
