It sucks, but it's pretty clear we're not getting a deal without it.
more games more money for everyone but the fans

For the 2021 World Series-winning Atlanta Braves, their shares of the postseason pool totaled $32,568,712. The value of a full share shifts depending on how many are awarded by a vote of the team. In the Braves’ case, a share was worth $397,391. The team doled out 66 full shares, a total of 14.25 partial shares and 38 cash awards.

From what Olney just tweeted, looks like top 2 teams in each league get byes, the remaining 4 teams in each league play each other in best of 3s.

So they're going to play 162 games to eliminate a little more than half the teams. It's really going to cheapen the regular season, IMO.
Totally

the reg season will just become MORE of an exhibition. Why bother committing 3 hours a day to something that has next to zero impact on anything?
For teams like the Pirates essentially are becoming a 162 game spring training competition for the teams that will make the playoffs.

I know they have essentially been that for a while but it makes it less compelling to watch them vs even prior.

They should just do a home run derby every night to attract the fans they really seek......

The Pirates have a great history, but they have become a laughing stock, unfortunately. I think I saw that they currently have the longest post-season drought in the game?

As a non-fan of the team, I like the team. They have a GREAT park and GREAT uni’s. Add in the history they have and they are an org that should be a perennial winner if for no other reason than they are just a good ambassador for the game.

more playoff teams is not a bad thing for fans... if anything it is a good thing for fans, because it keeps excitement for mediocrity...

i am more opposed to the 2 teams getting a bye than the 6 teams making the playoffs... at that point, i would rather 8 teams making it than 6... byes dont work in baseball, as baseball is all about momentum and rhythm...

does, extra playoff teams hurt the regular season??? of course it does, but then again, middle of the baseball season does not do that well anyway... so not sure if it really matters... it does hurt the whole marathon persona baseball has always had... but that persona is also what doesnt attract it to the younger generation...

definitely a difficult balance to be had here because loyal fans are going to hate this... i think they are probably too early for this change, you need to attract fans to the sport before you make this move... this is not going to attract new fans... it just will help new fans when they finally do come to the sport...

The last time they won a playoff series was 1979.
As for a WS drought out of the teams that won it is the second longest behind the Guardians/Indians.

Oh yeah the park is great, and they do have good revenue based off of it. But the owner flat out sucks and will not spend a dime.

SPN's Jeff Passan confirms that MLBPA leaders have "agreed unanimously" to reject MLB's final CBA proposal.

Thus there will be no deal ahead of the 5 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday, and now Major League Baseball is expected to announce an official delay to the beginning of the 2022 season. There seemed to be growing momentum for a compromise as of late Monday night, but the players are now claiming that the two sides were never really close on certain core economic issues and that the owners were merely gaming public perception with those rumors.

MLB is dead to me.
Giants are such a big part of my life that I will have a hard time stopping cold turkey, but my interest in the game is very diminished with these changes and I can see myself making incremental step backs over the next few years resulting in an almost complete walk away by ‘24 or ‘25.

A friend of mine was a die hard Yankee fan. It took him years to go back after the lockout season.
I’ve been a lifelong Dodger fan. I’ll probably check box scores from time to time but going to games or buying MLB licensed items is over.
