The salaries had nothing to do with those increases. The teams raised their prices because they thought the market could bare the increase. Period.

If a team could charge $175 for a seat, you think they would choose to only charge $100?

And 2021 had very limited seats available due to Covid restrictions. I don’t think any park was open to 100% attendance. Scarcity in product = increased prices.

The bigger point is that they would never decrease the ticket prices. So whatever it was last year, you have to expect it to rise. Until of course the demand is low.

I agree with that 100%. Except that ‘21 still had a diminished supply due to Covid. ‘22 (assuming a quick ish resolution to the lager issues) will not have the reduced supply, so I would expect average ticket prices to drop when compared to ‘21.

Not if more teams are making the playoffs.

Actually more teams making the playoffs is a bigger reason for the ticket increase than player salaries.

Maybe I misread the stat. Wasn’t the average price in relation to OPENING DAY?

Edit: I just checked. It was in relation to opening day.

I am not certain how doubling the playoff teams would affect overall ticket prices. Regular season games would lose interest, but there would be more playoff games to sell (obviously higher prices). But if you still looking at 1 seat vs 1 seat, I am not certain there would be enough post season games to make that big of a dent.

I could be wrong.

But last years opening day had less than 50% the inventory that will be available this year. No way in hell will the average ticket price for this years opening day compete with last year’s

Depends on when opening day is. If it is delayed you are right. Fans will be upset. And will show it. But if it is not delayed, it has to be. They are not going to lower the ticket prices for no reason.

It wouldn’t be “no reason”. It would be increased supply = lowered value. Even if the TOP tickets sold at or above last years prices, the “cheap seats” will lower the average.

I hope this means more one and done games and not drawn out series for multiple rounds. If the prior they better need to shorten the season, if not the World Series and Super Bowl might be a double header (yeah I am being facetious for dramatic effect).

And the thought of a ghost win is just awful.

From what Olney just tweeted, looks like top 2 teams in each league get byes, the remaining 4 teams in each league play each other in best of 3s.

So they're going to play 162 games to eliminate a little more than half the teams. It's really going to cheapen the regular season, IMO.

Hmm.. Ya think?

The regular season shouldn’t be about the FEW teams it eliminates, it should be about the FEW teams that advance.
