Seahawks have controlled time of possession the last few years, you don't get that with three and outs.

We've had so many throw away drives composed of throw away plays since Bevell has been here. When have you ever seen that WR screen work? How many times have you seen defenses just leave the flat empty because they know we won't attack it? People are screaming about the o-line but these lazy patterns and refusal to work the center of the field are not doing him any favors.

Yup, all you have to do is listen to what Pete has to say about Bevell. He loves him and why not? Many a OC has screwed a great defense by taking to many risks and turning the ball over.

Well nobody else seems to give a crap about Bevell. We can't keep a defensive coordinator to save our lives but he's still here.

You know I always wonder why the screens don't work. You use them to slow down the rush. That's one thing the Rams used to slow down the Seahawks pass rush and it worked well. Lack of enough blockers? Or does RW just not sell it well?

Sure, that because the defense is the core of the team. The offense just has to not screw it up with turn overs, run the clock, get the safe points and that usually works.

Those WRs screens worked pretty well with Tate. Not tons of success with anyone else. Hopefully Lockett can be effective with it.

Those 49er teams had no salary cap btw. So they had tough as nails D's do go with that all-world offence.

We get to pick one.

Teams are just playing it because we run it too much. If they're going to stack the box like that then run a slant. God knows Wilson's arm is strong and accurate enough to get it in there. But the bubble screen is safer than the slant and that's why we run it. The most frustrating thing to me is that the plays we should be running are in the play book. When we get down more than a score we get aggressive and move the ball. I'm not asking for the greatest show on turf. I'm just saying give Wilson a chance to move the ball early.

Bevell has had multiple HC interviews since 2013.

Truth is Pete is the guy that wants to play it safe. Man does he hate turnovers. It's a sin he can't forgive.

And what's your point with this? So you're acknowledging the offense is sub-par now? You're saying that we signed Wilson that fat deal to be a human pinata because we just can't afford anything else?

And one of the main reasons the 49ers offense was so good is because Walsh let Montana be Montana. That isn't happening with Wilson right now. He's got one hand tied behind his back until they absolutely need him to do his thing and he just about always delivers. Why not give him that freedom the entire game?

3 and outs are not ball control offense. They're the absence of offense.

I agree, which is another reason to like Bevell!

In 2009 & 2010 (only years info I could get without looking through every game boxscore) Seattle had a 3 and out on 26.9% of their drives (105 of 390), and were well below the league average in both seasons. Since Bevell has come that percentage has dropped to 20% (151 of 756), and all but one season was well below the league average (the one was 2011 where the Seattle had a 22.7 but league average was 22.6). Overall, Seattle is a top 10 offense in this category since 2011 (through week 3 of this year).

1. Green Bay Packers (16.6)
2. New England Patriots (16.8)
3. Dallas Cowboys (17.6)
4. New Orleans Saints (17.8)
5. Philadelphia Eagles (19.3)
6. San Diego Chargers (19.7)
7. Detroit Lions (19.8)
8. Miami Dolphins (19.9)
9. Seattle Seahawks (20.0)
10. Washington Redskins (20.3)

Interesting, huh?

Bevell is frustrating as hell. He can dial up a solid game plan but the problem is he's too inconsistant. He gets too cute in the red zone which causes more FG's then TD's at times. The bubble screens got way over used so now it can't be used as a surprise attack. Bevell has made some great calls but his bad calls over shawdow the good ones. Side note, I'd rather have Tom Cable fired first.

He brought up the 9ers to compare our O with theirs.

I'm pointing out that the teams from that era (SF, Dallas in the NFC) that were doing that, were stacked on BOTH sides of the ball, because they didn't have to worry about spending too much money.

We don't have that luxury. Pete and John have made a conscious decision to spend the most money on D. That's the simple reality. Where do they cheap out on? O-line.

That's the reality.

And how many of those saves were because of Wilson pulling a rabbit out of his ass? Or Lynch getting contact in the backfield and pulling the pile like 5 yards? You know what's really baffling? So our #1 RB is out, we start playing out of power sets and a UFA puts up 100 yards for us. Why the hell aren't we seeing these sets with Lynch? It's nothing but that stupid read option formation with him getting the ball when he's flat-footed. Where's the logic with that?

You what all this Bevell hate is about. Envy. Some posters want to see a Packer type offense for the Seahawks. Might happen down the road, might not. Right now Pete wants a time chewing offense, he's made it a bit hard to do by going cheap on the OL, but he feels the Seahawks can pull it off. They already have.

And how many times has Wilson taken a sack he shouldn't have holding the ball too long - or even how many of his Houdini acts came from him messing up the read/play. Who knows? Who cares? The thing is that we have a top ten offense designed to compliment our #1 defense, that's what Pete wants, and that's what Bevell gives us.

Yes, it's completely played out at this point and we should just drop it. We got one of the best play action QB's in the league and one of the best play action targets in Graham. Time to start working that.
