I won't dispute that but who do you think will be more productive in years 3 and beyond Cally or the prospects. Who will be cheaper and better cost for production its not st. Louis

Yes and St Louis is already cheaper than Callahan, so factor in a prospect in that making at least 1M per, it will be cheaper in the long run to have MSL.

Cally will never produce more than 45 points for us, he's shown that and also can't stay healthy. We would be stupid not to flip him for St Louis.

No I'm saying instead of trading him for straight up St. Louis who 38 and still expensive get prospects because this isn't the old NHL you want your younger players. You also may have confidence in St. Louis at 40 but I don't.

I have just as much confidence in a 40 year old MSL, as I do in a 41 year old Jagr and 42 year old Selanne. This guys are well conditioned and are built for this. Just take a look at MSL's work ethic, the guy works out like crazy. He's still one of the fastest skaters in the game, even at 38. He was the leading scorer in the NHL last year. The man can still play. That move helps us more than it hurts us.

We're in a win now mode. Trading for prospects wont really help us now.

11:05AM: Alain Vigneault says that he is confident Ryan Callahan will sign. (Steve Zipay)

I really hope not, and not at his price tag.

3/2/14: 7:34AM: Callahan is searching for $6.75 million per seaosn because “he knows” he can get that as a UFA. The Sabres are expected to make a push for Callahan. (Ottawa Sun)

Callahan’s agent has said that he isn’t asking for anything crazy.
Many think that Callahan will be signed by the Rangers and if Callahan isn’t signed by the deadline it’s doubtful he will be traded. (Ottawa Sun)

Previous reports have put Callahan being traded at 99%
3/1/14: 9:45PM: The Rangers may be willing to add one more-year to their offer to Ryan Callahan, making is six-years and $36 million. This is as far as the team will go for Callahan, “there’s nothing more within the realm of reason that can be done to entice the captain to remain on Broadway.” (NY Post)

This is getting ridiculous now. Getting the sense he stays, and then walks on July 1st

No but its how we stay good instead of having only a few years. Also I dont think there are many people who think this team has the talent to win a cup.

Honestly, don't think Cally will be signed, think he stays here and then walks at the end of the season and we get nothing.

And yes, this team can, add another top goal scoring threat like MSL and we're a lot closer than we are now.

The argument is do you trust him to continue to produce like a top forward into his 40s I dont think his production will match the money he wants. Also correct me if I'm wrong he is a FA after next year so then we will be in the same position. also if he wants a multi year deal then we have to worry about that cap hit if he does decide to retire.

I would say yea go for it if we had a more complete team but we dont and even with St. Louis our Stanley Cup chances are pretty low.

My example: Jaromir Jagr. The Devils leading goal scorer and point scorer at the age of 42. So Yes, I do believe MSL can keep up his production till, at the very least, 41 years old.

If he wants to come here now via trade, odds are in our favor of him re-signing with us after that year.

And he is having a good season but he was a 100 point per season player before he went to the NHL now he is about a 50-60 point per season player.

@TSNBobMcKenzie:

I am hearing NYR and Ryan Callahan are inching towards a contract agreement but they're not there...yet. #TSN #Tradecentre

3:07PM: “status quo” with Ryan Callahan and nothing new to report. [ame="http://twitter.com/KevinWeekes/status/440941435123429376"](Kevin Weekes)[/ame]

@TSNBobMcKenzie:

On Callahan, I'd have to think it's getting very close to make or break time, close gap and get contract done...or failing that, move him.

No update on Cally, but the MSL rumors are picking back up!

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 3m

Also hearing St Louis is expected to encourage the trade to NYR today. Not sure if that impacts Yzerman's decision.

@JSportsnet:
Rangers have put an offer in on Martin St.Louis. Really up to Yzerman and St.Louis if there is any traction. #TradeTracker
