Wasn't this the common refrain from certain elements in Toronto after David Clarkson was signed? And yet now that his stats sheet this season is basically empty you don't hear much from those same people about the other "things" that don't show up and how valuable they are, you just hear them bitching about what a bad signing it was for a guy who doesn't score points.

True true too much to pay for intangibles.

Callahan still does a lot of dirty work. Still one of our top 3 penalty killers on the team. Can be trusted on both sides of the ice. I'd be happy with 15-20 goals a year from him and roughly 50 points. But to be paid like a top line scorer when your game has taken a step back in a new system, you can see your way out the door.

I'd be happy with 15-20 goals a year and 50 points from anyone at the right price. But that's the whole point here. I mean, what would be the max you would sign him for? Forget about being paid like a top line scorer, I wouldn't even offer him the deal that Sather supposedly has (25 for 5 I think I read?).

And I don't know that he's a 20 goal/50 point guy anyway. Maybe next year he might have a chance to get there, but certainly not over the length of a 5 or 6 year deal.

It's a tough situation for the Rangers that I don't envy - most likely he's gone now, whether that's before the deadline or after this season - but the Rangers could obviously trade him and get an asset back but they'd be hurting their current team when they've played really well

For the first few years he can provide that, he does play well with Hags and Richie, he just continues to try and play Torts' hockey and it doesn't work now.

Unless he lowers his price, could be gone before Friday.

He doesnt want to stay as a Ranger thats why he is bidding high and knows Sather isnt going to pay it.......I think him AV may be at odds because why would a player do this in the middle of a cup run knowing there is a very good chance they could make the postseason and he just got a new deal ....what?....2 years ago. Its something with him and AV (I could be wrong)

Callahan has personified Tort hockey all these years, makes perfect sense why he's struggling with AV hockey more so than most of the players on the team. If I were him I would sign with the Canucks. That's probably where he belongs, with Torts.

Was one of, if not the best forward tonight. If he plays like this consistently, gonna be tough to let him go. Man, i'm at a crossroads with the Captain.

He's been the heart & soul for many years, really was the most redeeming aspect of Tort hockey, but can he produce like tonight on a consistent basis under AV's system? IDK

What I would do is trade him to see what pieces they could get, and then hope to sign him as a free agent. You know what they say,

"You only need the light when it's burning low, only miss the sun when it starts to snow, you only know you love them when you let them go."

Only then will the Rangers, Ranger fans, and Captain Callahan realize they need each other.

Stewart doesnt fit the AV system, if that be the case Kazzim from the leafs be better, I say Cally comes down and Sather pays him

Idk, that line was fucking awesome tonight. I haven't seen this kind of hustle from Cally in weeks. IMO, he really wants to stay here. You can see it in his game, he just needs to lower his price.

That only happens if both sides realize how much they need each other, and the only way for them to do that is to temporary part ways IMO.

Well I would like to see them work it out. I think Callahan belongs on the Rangers, but he's gotta be reasonable. We'll see how it works out. Good luck to you guys.

Instead of counting dollars, Callahan should start counting stars.

Ryan Callahan is not in fact searching for a seven-year deal worth $42 million which was the regularly reported number last week. (NY Post)
A GM who has spoken with Glen Sather about trading for Callahan says that he is looking for seven years at “six plus-plus-plus million per year. Larry Brooks says it’s likely, seven-years and $47 million. (NY Post)

He's gotta bring that price down, if I were him, i'd go 5-years for 6M per. Take it or leave it. That's more than fair.

Wow, Cally picked the perfect game to change your opinion. Just yesterday I proposed a max offer of 5 years, $27.5 million at $5.25 million per year, and you said that was a bit much. 1 game and now you're willing to go 5 years, $30 million, at $6 million per year. It's like the movie "Gladiator", you win the crowd, you win your contract.

Did I? I thought I liked the 5.25M offer? I'm fine with that, or maybe that was for G? lol idk anymore.

Either way, he plays like he did last night, the hardworking, battles every shift, hits everything on ice, Cally. Then sign him.
