Also, a reminder from the link above:

ONE MORE OBSERVATION

» In the past, the officiating crews that worked the playoffs were the same crews that worked together during the regular season. This season, however, the postseason crews will be made up based on a rating system, comprised of the highest-ranked officials. The lower-ranked crews will work Wild Card Weekend, while the higher-ranked officials will work next weekend.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this but I thought some might find it interesting.

ESPN Stats and Information: Andrew Luck will be the first Colts QB not named Manning to start a playoff game since Jim Harbaugh in 1996.

And how interesting that Luck was coached by Harbaugh in college - small world!

Eric Branch:

#49ers Michael Crabtree in 2012: 85 catches, 1,105 yards. #49ers Dwight Clark in 1981: 85 catches, 1,105 yards.

If spooky Crabtree-Clark stat line continues in playoffs, Crabtree will have 17 catches for 269 yards in 3 games w/ memorable grab in NFCCG.

Eric Branch: Michael Crabtree is one of six players in #49ers history with 85 catches in season: Rice, Owens, Craig, Loville, Clark.

Crabtree's 85 catches are tied for 12th most in franchise history. His 1,105 yards are tied for 16th most in franchise history. He was 2 receptions shy of tying Derek Loville for 10th most.

Most receptions in a season

1. Rice - 1995 - 122
2. Rice - 1994 - 112
3. Rice - 1996 - 108
T-4. Rice - 1990 - 100
T-4. Owens - 2002 - 100
6. Rice - 1993 - 98
7. Owens - 2000 - 97
8. Owens - 2001 - 93
9. Craig - 1985 - 92
10. Loville - 1995 - 87

Chris, do you know if the measurements provided for Kap's 20+ yard attempts are measured from LOS? I ask only because Maiocco is claiming that Kap has 5 TD's that have traveled 20 or more yards and that is simply not the case; he has 4.

(defined as throws that traveled 20 or more yards in the air)

since he said 'travelled', seems like it isn't from the LOS?

My answer would be the same as Deep's I think?

I don't know if this was intentional, but I loved how you used Deep's "?" in your response about your answer being the same as Deep's.

I just received this explanation from MW.

For TD's thrown 'into' the end zone, PFF measures from the LOS to the point of reception in the end zone - Thus, drop-back yardage is not included but end zone yardage is included.

Mystery solved.

Some actual bye week news on the game for a change.

Eric Branch: 49ers Justin Smith has brace on left arm. Going through position drills. Jim Harbaugh and Brad Seely closely watched David Akers and Billy Cundiff take turns booting FGs at start of practice. #49ers

Matt Barrows: Big 49ers news of the day: Justin Smith in uniform, with helmet at the start if practice. Had plastic brace on his left arm.

There's not much more that I hate than when writers post PRACTICE KICKING numbers.

Cam Inman: 49ers kicking derby underway. In warmups, David Akers made 16 of 21 (5 wide rt from 53, 52, 43, 43, 48), Billy Cundff made 10 of 12.

49ers kicking derby stats courtesy of @CorkOnTheNFL, who added that Akers missed 3 of 4 in one stretch while Harbaugh/Baalke watched

I really wish there was some way we didn't need Smith in the first playoff game, but given their recent defensive performances I don't think we can risk it.

Kyle Bonagura: Akers looked hesitant, Cundiff was pretty much spot on. Cundiff was more accurate, more powerful in time open to media.

I know I wouldn't do this, because I'd be stubborn and fight for my job, but if Akers really is that injured, it'd be better for him to say so and give Cundiff time to practice more with coaches and the confidence that he's the guy to mentally prepare. But if Akers can pick it up, is healing, or isn't injured, this competition can only do good (not the timing, of course). Again, I would keep fighting for the job even if I were injured and I understand Akers fighting for it. Akers might not have much chance beyond this season unless he can pick it up - the only way to do that is to keep fighting. I also think that if he were to quit after this year or not find employment elsewhere, he'd be fighting for his pride, for his last real opportunity to leave on a high note.
