WHY do Husker fans above all others choose to relive so many horrible memories?

I think it's a pseudo group therapy type of thing.... No one's gonna see a psychiatrist to try to resolve emotional issues regarding Nebraska football, but I honestly think I could use a session or two with a professional. Emotionally scarring. That is the best description I can give for the last 10 or so years of Nebraska football.

What I want to know is , why do the Texas losses hurt more than the others, to me anyway. It seriously makes me sick when we lose to Bevo.Wow this was my 4000post and I ruined it by affiliating it with Texas

Not entirely true.

The rule stated the clock could not be reviewed unless there was an "egregious" error.

The scoreboard clock, in fact, had 1 second on it when the ball landed out of bounds.

The replay officials viewed it as 'since the 1 second played a part in the outcome of the game' it was "egregious".

We all know that 1 second is never reviewed throughout the course of that game or any game in the first quarter, second quarter, third quarter, or even with 1 minute to play in the 4th quarter. It was only reviewed because it was the last play of the game where the outcome was in play. i.e. "egregious"

NU made the penalties, Texas hit the FG. It was a loss. End of story.

They reviewed the clock on the TV......

They have said it over and over and over again.

Problem with that is that the clock on the TV is just for entertainment purposes.

And yourn point?

Tom and Barry both did it during a time when it was much easier.....there was no parity

You're now reverting back to a previous argument that all Pelino lovers like to throw on the table. It has already been debunked.

This is from another poster on another board but I thought it was relevant to the thread so I updated it for current numbers......

"Countless times on here, I've read "the schedules were not as difficult during the Osborne era," as some sort of excuse that's it's more difficult to rack up wins now than it was 20-30 years ago. I decided it's about time to do some research and post the facts.

First, I only tabulated games played against top 20 competition (AP Poll). Remember, most of the Osborne era was played when the polls only had a top 20 (not 25, as current). So, better to leave out #21 through #25 for the entire period (1973-2011) -- as it's likely T.O. would have faced at least a handful of those as well, had they existed. This puts things on a level playing surface for a more valid statistical comparison.

Tom Osborne, 1973-1997 (25 seasons):
Played 97 games against ranked (top 20) competition.
3.88 ranked opponents per season.
60-36-1 W-L-T record.
.624 winning percentage.
14 seasons with a winning record against ranked opponents.

Frank Solich, 1998-2003 (6 seasons):
Played 21 games against ranked (top 20) competition.
3.50 ranked opponents per season.
8-13 W-L record.
.381 winning percentage.
1 season with a winning record against ranked opponents.

Bill Callahan, 2004-2007 (4 seasons):
Played 11 games against ranked (top 20) competition.
2.75 ranked opponents per season.
1-10 W-L record.
.091 winning percentage.
0 seasons with a winning record against ranked opponents.

Bo Pelini, 2008-2013 (6 seasons):
Played 19 games against ranked (top 20) competition.
3.16 ranked opponents per season.
5-14 W-L record.
.263 winning percentage.
0 seasons with a winning record against ranked opponents.

This kills the argument that Osborne played fewer top 20 ranked opponents. In fact, 3.88 per season is more than any coach since.

Also, it shows just how good Osborne was. Won over 62% of his games against ranked opponents. 14 seasons with winning records against ranked competition. (We've only seen one since T.O retired.) This crushes the records of Frank, Bill, and Bo. And my goodness, was Callahan ever bad against ranked competition."

Let me just be clear about this.........I wanted a coaching change.

HOWEVER......I am not like some of you who just want anyone. Some of you just want change.....something to get excited about. A lot of fans just love the drama that goes along with it.....the attention that we get with all the change and what not......the idea of a new direction.

There are only a couple of guys out there that I would even consider for one fucking second as hiring here in place of Bo. It is really hard to justify replacing a guy who hasn't had any poor seasons and is trying to build something......thus, if you're going to do it then it better be someone like Nick Saban that we bring in.......and that can't happen, because even if we offered a guy like that 15 million a year he wouldn't come to this place.

Some of the names that were brought up in that thread made by Jed a while back are just an absolute joke. Any time you make a big coaching change you are essentially starting over and you have to (realistically) look 3-4 years down the road before success SHOULD come. Now there are situations like the one Auburn is currently in where the pieces are all in place for a good coach coming in and things click instantly. Nebraska doesn't have that kind of talent, but they are starting to bring it in.

A lot of people just don't realize what Nebraska Football really is. It's not a place where you start over and over and over looking for some magic guy.

At this place you gotta build it. It may take a while.....it may take some walk-ons.....some guys that nobody expects to make an impact.

We aren't Ohio State where recruits are living out in the alley behind the stadium and all we gotta do is go out and offer them some shit.

It's gonna be tough for ANY coach in the entire country to have success here. I absolutely guarantee that.

Oh....and one other thing....

We will NEVER get to a point where we are just winning Championships left and right ever again. The way things are now, and with the fact that we are not in the middle of a recruiting hotbed, we are going to be good every now and then.

Maybe once or twice every 10 years. Gonna have to deal with it too. We will never return to dominance.

There will never be a Dynasty again, even the SEC is about to get a wake up call with the coming of the playoff system.

I would never say never. It could happen again.

No. They used the "Game" clock.

Thee story that the media reported was that the officials had nothing to look at but the ABC replay of what we saw in real time.....thus they only had that clock that we saw on TV while it was happening.

When things are being reviewed by officials, what we see being played on TV is never what is being seen by the officials.

Link?

There is an "Official" clock (an official on the field), and a "Game" clock (the scoreboard clock and the clock the replay officials use).

That is why sometimes an official on the field says "Reset the game clock to blah, blah, blah."

Well yea I know all that en sech....

I just remember all the outrage after the game was because of what the officials actually reviewed.

Can't wait for Jed to come on here with his usual rant about how the fucking moron fans can't let that game go and how it was a fucking loss and fucking deal with all fucking ready......along with the use of several fucking exclamation points

Anyways, I don't see things only in terms of wins and losses.

That game against Texas in 2009 was a glimpse of what a Bo Pelini coached team can be. That is why I hold out some hope that we can still be decent moving forward.....especially with the talent we are bringing in on the Defensive side of the ball.

I really believe the Defense will surprise people next year and actually believe we have an opportunity to be 10 fold better than we were this season. Harder schedule though....much harder.

Unfortunately, the game last year against Wisconsin is also a glimpse of what a Bo Pelini coached team can be.

I do get the feeling though that a lot of folks are not even excited about next season beings as Bo is coming back....

Where in the hell did ye get your balls from??? Toys-R-Us???

I don't give a shit who our coach is, when it's game time....it's game time. I'm pumped as fuck already for next season. Hell, I'm pumped for the bowl game.

This is bullshit JJM. You say you aren't defending Pelini (which I have no problem if you are, I have and do waver from one position to the other) but to say we can't win championships because we can't get the recruits is utter bullshit.

WE CANNOT WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS BECAUSE WE ARE NOT A DISCIPLINED TEAM.

We meltdown in important games. We get 70+ points scored on us by a team we previously beat. We turnover the ball 5 times. We take an 18 point lead and lose by 20. We blow up drives with false starts and we fake punt at our own freaking 30 yard line.

That is why we don't win championships because we can not put together a complete game and when we do our staff does some stupid shit that invalidates anything the players may have done.

If we could just quit beating ourselves we would be winning conference championship games regularly and playing in BCS bowl games.
