This is subjective, but some owners are way better than others. Mostly I would base it on team success. So long term I am thinking the Rooney's (Pittsburgh) are very near the top. Along with the citizens of Green Bay.
I like Paul Allen cause he is almost never heard and seen even less. Unlike that useless used car salesman that patrolled the sidelines and hired the enemy coach (Tom Flores) off the raiders who we used to have a rivalry with. And then loaded up the trucks and tried to move the team to LA.

Seahawks have been a non contender most of their history. I blame all of that on previous ownership. Either they ignored the team or tried to ruin it. Finally we have someone who hires good management and lets them do their job.

Lets hope that turns out to be a winning formula.

I'm going to be biased here, but in 1997 Ken Behring already had the equipment trucked to LA. So they were on the way out, then in the eleventh hour Paul Allen bought the team and saved football in Seattle. Since he has been owner they have had their greatest success with 6 division titles (1 AFC West and 5 NFC West Titles) and one super bowl appearance.

But the bias aside, Robert Kraft has done an incredible job in New England, also Art Rooney II is no slouch either.

Biased here too, but Pat Bowlen has always looked to put a winner on the field, stays in his luxury box during games and lets his staff make personnel decisions. Has a bubble-head, bimbo wife too.

I miss Jack Kent Cooke. I can't say how he would've fared once the Plan B Free Agency went the way of the do-do, but he was such an affable guy. Lots of character. Ahh, memories.

Stated well for skins fans!

Particularly relevant, given what we've had to deal with after him and the circus sideshow we are currently looking at.

Yes...truly a high character individual. I remember when he was paying off Paul Tagliabue to keep Baltimore from getting another team after Irsay moved the the Colts.

It's called karma. You can thank Cooke for it.

I love how people have thrown out a dozen names and none of them are George Halas. None of your owners would even have a league to own teams in if it wasn't for him.

Hands Down

I have to play the bias card here as well...The Rooney family.

They lost for a lot of years, and they built a dynasty by the old pre-free agent rules, you built through the draft...they struggled in the beginning of the free agency era, and signing bonuses...PIT was literally a training ground to get paid elsewhere...Still for the most part they're a build through the draft franchise, but they finally got their arms around free agency to the point of keeping their drafted stars and won 2 more titles in the free agency era.

Yes...truly a high character individual. I remember when he was paying off Paul Tagliabue to keep Baltimore from getting another team after Irsay moved the the Colts.

His personal antics and persona were hilarious and he was as charming as he could be ornery. Even people who disliked him, couldn't deny his ability to dominate a room and shine with his personality.

As an owner of the Redskins, he was 100% dedicated to the Team and never wavered, nor meddled.

He WAS a 'character' in terms of the informal definition of it. I would never say he embodied the traits of 'high character' in terms of morality or impeccable integrity.

Kornheiser's obit sums him up nicely.

I can understand why you would not be his biggest fan.

I appreciate that. I'm not the biggest fan of what Cleveland went through with Modell, but given the fact they only had to endure a couple years without a team and were able to keep their name, colors and history...I don't lose any sleep. The fact that freakin' Jacksonville (and Carolina for that matter) were awarded an expansion franchise before a city like Baltimore (with it's NFL rich history) and Cooke's hand in that (due to greed) will always eat away at me. It took football away from me for a very long time.

There was a scenario where Baltimore could have gotten Peyton manning and the browns could have gotten Tom Brady had the browns not moved that year. It's a crazy scenario but it was possible. What could have been :noidea:

The browns also would have got Ray Lewis though.
