The Chiefs have done this before with a different cast of people. Over the recent history of the Chiefs, they've gotten out to great starts, but never seem to follow through with those starts. In the last 5 years, they've gotten out to 5-0 or better starts 3 times.

2018: 6-0 (finishing record TBD)
2017: 5-0 (finished 10-6, lost in WC round)
2013: 9-0 (finished 11-5, lost in WC round)

What makes this team different, if anything, or will they end up the same way Chiefs teams in the past have?

Nope. I've seen Andy Reid teams do this before. I've seen the Chiefs do this before.

Because Alex Smith or some other mediocre-outright-bad QB isn't the guy under center?

IDK, I'm having trouble buying into them just because Alex Smith was able to do it twice and they just collapsed both times. I know Mahomes isn't Smith, but this might just be Alex Smith wearing a Patrick Mahomes costume, no?

Too early to tell. It'll come down mostly to the QB obviously, and I'll reserve judgement if and when I see Mahomes in January.

Patrick Mahomes is the next Brett Farve. Arm strength, accurate, ballsy (willing to take calculated risks), mobile, agile, can make all the throws, smart, a leader, creative when things break down. Mahomes is the next great QB. I don't think it is a fluke, or the league hasn't caught up to him yet. I think he is just that damn good. That is my opinion though.

Not even a little up to this point, no.

Two completely different tendencies and QB's. They're as close to opposites in a vacuum as one can find.

They're deeper on offense and have an aggressive QB. Really the issue should be will the D be healthy when it matters. They haven't been for really any of the past 5 years. They get a passrush and just enough from the secondary and they're fine.

If they continue to score 35 PPG it won't even matter.

Seems a little weird to be having this schtick with the 2nd winningest team just about behind the Pats since 2013 methinks. They've been flat in the playoffs, but a bit disingenuous to question if they're legit at this point. JM2C. They've proven they're far from incapable of beating playoff and SB level opposition. Not gonna claim they're the favorite, but this is silly, imo.

Gambler's Fallacy, imo.

I think they're a contender in the AFC and not a favorite. Right there with the Bengals, Chargers and Steelers who have all had pretty sketchy runs lately.

So are you saying the Bears should not have traded up to pick Trubisky?

He was generally an accurate player....especially when Holmgren was there to reign him in. After he had a bunch of yes-men at HC, he was more out-of-control....

To analyze there season a bit, they've played the Chargers, Steelers and Jaguars who are hot and cold right now and the lackluster 49ers with Jimmy G. To me, they haven't hit their tough schedule, (which isn't much because their schedule looks easy as pie right now), until next week against the Patriots and then against the Bengals who, all of a sudden, look legit. The rest of their schedule is pretty easy aside from a great matchup against the Rams in Week 12.

Aside from the Jags yesterday, the Broncos were 18th in pass TDs allowed. The Chargers are 25th, San Fran is 27th, Pittsburgh is 30th. Patriots are 25th while the Bengals are 20th so, still not a challenge, but tougher offenses to face up against in my opinion. I don't think I can buy into the Chiefs yet just because of their history of collapsing. Now I can definitely buy into Patrick Mahomes, but I am weary of fully buying into him just because of how good Dak Prescott looked and now look at him. Teams have tape on him and Zeke and he's just making poor decisions and nowhere near as good as he was 2 years ago.

Chiefs yet just because of their history of collapsing.

You do realize the Chiefs start slower in their first 5 games than the middle 6 or last 5... right?

First 5: Record - 16-9 (.640)

Middle 6: Record - 20-10 (.667)

Last 5: Record - 17-8 (.680)

(edit, just realized it was from 2013-2017; bumps it up to 21-9, but the point generally is the same going into the season; they have, on totality, gotten strong by w%, not weaker)[Edit2: putting this back to 2013-2017, so the first column will drop from 17-9 to 16-9]

Well read the sentence..
I'm assuming you're talking about Favre being inaccurate but Mahomes just had a game where he threw Ints so on internet speak you could be questioning whether or not he was accurate like Favre.

The whole league is a mess right now. The Chiefs offense is one of the rare exceptions of consistent quality to this point in the season. That consistent quality has resulted in zero losses and a mirage of greatness when compared to the rest of the league.
