Yeah, that pic totally sums it up. And there's Trujillo in there too with their hipster California wives on Rodeo Drive or the Sunset Strip. A long way from the days of

"The lady of justice has been raped by the truth assassin."

That's MY Metallica. The Metallica that got off the tourbus and went in and bought a dozen cases of Budweiser for the road at the 7-Eleven on the way out of town.

This thread kind of exploded. I'll have to catch up reading. THEN form a biased opinion.

"Wait for the sign to flip the switch of death,
it's the beginning of the end."

Some of the best lyrics of all were from the track Ride the Lightning because he described perfectly what it must feel like to be strapped in the electric chair and waiting for the pain and death.

"Death in the air, strapped into the electric chair.
This can't be happening to me."

"I don't want to die!!!"

Just a heads-up, all of the opinions I expressed in this thread are totally unbiased.

Joking. I love Metallica. Since I was prolly 14. I remember listening to them on a shitty rerecorded tape that had been colored red with marker and had Metallica written in black marker with the letters getting smaller towards the edge because it was running out of room. Still had the lightning tho. Doe.

My first Metallica show was at the Mid South Coliseum. They opened for Ozzy Osborne on his Ultimate Sin tour. Metallica was on the Damage Inc tour.

You're saying you like the Biebs?

I also owned a "Right stuff" tape with some other song on the other side it's either like Backstreet Boys, or 98 degrees. I'd wait for everybody to get good and fucked up and I'd pop it in at a tape break and head outside to smoke. LOL. Volume on 11.

I learned how to play bass because of Cliff Burton and can still pull off most of Anesthesia/Pulling Teeth.

c'mon man, this pic they are in their late 40's and have families, you can't keep the rock star image forever.

Exactly. If they still drank cases of Budweiser every night, they wouldn't around for us to make fun of anymore!

Happens to all the great artists/bands: they are hungry and a bit screwed up in their heyday, and produce some amazing art. Then most of them get older (or die young), get less screwed up, party a lot less...and generally their art suffers for it. (Anyone from Bob Dylan to U2 come to mind.).

I played the crap out of Ride The Lightening as a high schooler (on vinyl of course). Those guys were freakin' great.
