I do agree, there are times an underthrow is better.

I also agree that the deep pass is not about just pure arm strenght, but about timing and expectation. The QB being able to see the play develop and KNOW that the WR is going to be open, and getting the ball out there earlier so that the WR can run under it.

I'm certainly no expert on the matter, but it seems to me he doesn't get enough air under his long passes. He tends to throw the ball on a line. I believe that leads to both underthrows and overthrows.

Could be a valid point. Trajectory is a big part of where you want the ball to land, and when. Maybe that is due to a lack of pure arm-strength? I don't know.

Maybe we can bring back Jeff Blake and have him work with Andy on how to throw the deep ball. Damn, he could chuck that shit out there, couldn't he? Hit Darnay Scott in stride just about every damn near time, too.

Maybe this is in the back of his mind all the time now that he had an entire offseason to be slammed by media and fans alike. I am not going to over throw it, I am going to give AJ a chance to at least make a play on it.

Just a thought.

I agree to a point. I have said all along the biggest thing he lacks is confidence. He looked confident in Detroit, and made aggressive decisions based on that confidence. Those aggressive decisions paid off, so maybe he'll continue to play with confidence.

This is not true. According to PFF, he's 9th in the league at 42% (I think it was) completion on passes over 20 yards.

Where the issue is, while the WR's are catching those passes, some could be going for TD's if they were to hit the WR in stride. Something the % doesn't take into account.

As I mentioned in the other thread, you can't just look at the raw numbers and say he's an accurate downfield passer. If you just look at those 2 passes to Green, he was 100% on those passes, BUT Green was wide open and he "missed" Green by a lot. Watch the games, he has horrible accuracy downfield. The vast majority of the time when he completes those passes, his receivers are wide open.

I'm not sure why you're putting a distinction between your first statement and the second above.

He has overthrown his receivers plenty of times this season before the last 2 games. Quite often his passes sail above and passed his receivers and out of bounds on the sidelines.

Bottom line is he's just not an accurate downfield thrower.
