Charley Casserly: Bengals QB Andy Dalton has 'ice in his veins'

Got a chuckle out of this, but thought it was a "decent" assessment.

Anyone elses thoughts on this overall assesssment by Casserly?

Of course notice, Casserly in his positive reinforcement of Dalton never mentioned the inaccuracy downfield. ha. Kinda hard to keep things positive though when you point out a glaring weakness. Oh well, he is what he is. Hopefully Dalton continues on the upswing and doesn't fall back into his complacency in the pocket at times.

Yes, I know I am starting a Dalton thread, but it was based on a writer/analysts point of view, not just a straight up hate thread. An objective thread that can point out positives and nagatives the same is certainly fine by me.

He was something like 5 of 6 in the DET game on passes over 15 yards, I think it was? and Something liek 7 of 8 on 10+?

Not sure of the numbers, but it was nice to see...even if AJ had to wait a full 2 seconds for his ball to get there nearly costing them a wide-open TD...LOL

He missed at least 2, because they were on the same drive, but he did ok. Like Crash said, he is what he is.

What a great steal for the Bengals. Dalton was drafted in the 3rd round, if I remember correctly, and proved to be an outstanding quarterback. He had an immediate positive impact on that team.

11 of 13 on passes of 10+ according to PFF. Easily the best game I have ever seen him play, and the first real evidence that he is progressing. Maybe the underthrow to AJ was because he was so wide open that Dalton wanted to make sure he didn't overthrow him. He had 15 yards on the defender.

Personally, I think he rushed the throw. It was one of those mis-direction plays that has the QB bootleg back around off a play-fake. It looked like he rushed the throw and didn't exactly take the extra second to set his feet.

Something that he'll need to continue to work on. You can't throw the ball deep (accurately or not) without having the proper balance and transfer of power from the backfoot. He's, honestly, lucky that ball didn't end up sailing/floating, which is typically what happens when you don't get the appropriate push off the back foot.

But hey, it worked.

To me it's not that he completed 11 of 13 passes downfield, it's the confidence with which he played. His aggressive decision making was something he had never shown before. That's why I am hopeful it isn't fools gold this time. That deer in the headlights look he has often before shown was gone.
