Two teams are playing their games in minor league parks this coming season.

I’m in favor of zero teams doing that.

The game is not at its best.

Carlos can absolutely still pick it. I never realized how good of a fielder that he was until last season. He saved probably 12-14 throwing errors that weaker 1st Basemen would have let get by them. And that's just in the games I saw.

Guy is still streaky at the plate, but Cleveland's pitchers will love having him back.

He’s basically a platoon hitter at the plate now

Crazy how good he is at first since he came up a c

They need both minimum and maximum cap, it's a joke that teams play on a unlevel playing field. I don't watch any game besides the Indians games. It's a joke that only the big city teams bid on these high caliber foreign players, It should be like the NBA, you have to register for the draft.

The lack of floor has always been the bigger issue

One of them is due to Mother Nature

One of them is due to their own incompetence & sins of the previous owners

Very different situations

Paul Sewald- Guardians spent 7M on a free agent!!!! lol. wow.

not game changing obviously- but nice to have another solid arm in an already awesome bullpen. I will take it.

I also think- that maybe- just maybe- seeing the price some teams paid for RP at the deadline- something like this, if the pen is just amazing again and Sewald is good- gives the Guardians the option to maybe trade Sewald or another pen guy for a bat at the deadline.

Tigers get Flaherty back.....they are gonna be tough. They went out and spent some money getting Gleybar and Flaherty, Kahnle....if they sign Bregman I think they are division favorites

as of right now- I still think any of the 4 teams can win it, and none are that much better or worse.

I think the Guardians rotation is gonna be a lot better this year. So much of the Guardians future is in Bazzana, DeLatuer and Manzardo.

I love having Lane Thomas from the start too. That is huge in CF. RF and 1B are the 2 positions they could still look at an upgrade- but I really think they dont want to block some of these guys.

they need to stop fucking around and extend AT LEAST Kwan and Bibee. Give us something.

not even close to true.

It absolutely is.

Teams get over 9 figures from national media deals

And yet some teams rarely spend up to that

Forget all the money they get from tickets, concessions, parking etc

Now with the Mallparks surrounding the fields

It’s just cheap owners wanting to stop the good owners from actually trying

It’s both. I do agree there are cheap owners but there are also owners that can outspend most owners easily (double or triple). The long-term issue is both. Some kind of ceiling and/or hard taxed like the NBA and a floor is a must. No ceiling is only fix part of the issue and those teams will still do everything they can to barely clear the floor

They have multiple hard taxed line and basically no floor besides spending a fraction of the revenue sharing

Also if you did an nba style cap (% of revenue) teams like Oakland and Miami payrolls would at least double

the Guardians get about 35 million from their local tv contract. The Dodgers get about 250 million. Over a 10 year period the Dodgers will make about 2.1 billion more than the Guardians. Its exceedingly likely the Guardians actually put more of their revenue towards the team than the Dodgers do as a percentage.

I don't know the tax line comparison from NBA to MLB but then obviously there is no hard cap. If a team is paying a player $600M I doubt they have a problem with fork up more on taxes. LA and other teams are also getting all these international fans. They have limitless spending.

Double and still almost 1/3 of the big market teams.

I take it back. I thought those teams were higher

My overall point is that most of the teams crying poor aren’t even spending all the free money they get simply by existing

Which is well into the 9 figures

Teams would still need to probably double that to match the nba style system

a lot of owners don’t want that floor

Which is why they haven’t pushed for a cap so much

Plus you’d need to do rven more revenue sharing when frankly you could remove most of the bottom 10 payroll teams (individually, w all at once) and baseball would barely notice

They’re replaceable to some extent

They are spending bc they aren't bringing in close to the revenue. So if you make the lower market teams spend they are essentially just losing money bc unless everything goes right for them in a season--they still aren't competing. The teams bringing in $200M+ revenue have endless spending. I was always in favor of a floor but thinking about it now, a ceiling is more needed. We can bitch about teams not spending but most (not all) are not spending for good reason. A team like LA is just going to gain more and more now that they have three bigtime Japanese players: Ohtani, Sasaki and Yamamoto. They have an All-Star roster at this point. Teams spending $120M instead of $70M isn't making much of a dent.
