granted i dont know who is in this draft...but yeah if he is the best option out there (has the most talent) then sure grab him...but if there is a legit center...give me a center ANYDAY OF THE WEEK over an "offensive" defenseman! as for taking up 25mins of ice time? go the route of free agency if thats one of your requirements

Everyone always talks about getting an offensive D man...i think our D in general is pretty bad. In any aspect defensively.

Lots of opinions in this thread. I'd be curious to know what superjay thinks.

i can already see it now if we get an "offensive" defenseman.....all i will hear about is how bad he is on defense how his defense sucks yadyadaya

If I had to pick I'd much rather have a solid scoring line center than a puck moving d man. I feel like a shut down, stay at home D man would benefit this or just about any team more than a guy that can move the puck. Guys like Brian Campbell look flashy and can change games, but they can also kill you.

smart man!

teams dont win cups because they have an offensive defenseman! you need a puck moving center i'm shocked that devils fans can even question that! since we have had a HUGE void since 2003!

Don't know cup I really can't say I remember the last team to win a cup that didn't have a quality offensive dman.even the devils cup teams had one.quality centers seem to be allot more common throughout the league whereas quality offensive dmen seem to set other teams apart from the pack.think about it what good is an offensive center when your dmen can't make a solid breakout pass.to be honest half the time the devils dmen either can't break the puck out of the zone or do so without giving the forwards any room to make a move.people always bring up the devils post lock out play and the changes in the game but one of the biggest changes for the devils was the loss of our top puck moving dmen.think I have to agree with superjay on this one team Definatly could use more flow.

It was probably Carolina but they had something better than an offensive Dman: A pair of Refs

Not counting that, you'd have to go back to either Colorado in 1996 (if Ozolinsh doesn't count) or back to the 70s where I have no idea how those teams were constructed

you could make an arguement for corvo on that carolina team but ozolinsh would be a stretch for the avs.i swear that guy thought he was a forward.

Yea, you said quality offensive Dman. He could sure provide offense but quality defenseman and Ozolinsh doesn't really fit.

i saw allot of ozolinsh and the guy was great at times had allot of offensive skill but he was so dead set on acting like a forward he was a major liability.for every play he made you would see three plays going the other way.

im not saying an offensive defenseman isnt important and like i said if this guy is the only legit nhl ready talent then yeah grab him... but to say offensive defenseman over a legit nhl puck moving center? thats a real strecth!

just look at the teams that have won the cup...yeah they had a solid offensive dman but they also had two great centers! this team hasnt had two legit centers since 2003 what a surprise we havent done squat since? zubrus elias rolston all fails (we are paying those prices now) you want further proof that this team esp needs a center? just look no further to what they did when they picked up arnott in 99 look how that turned this team around. thats what a real nhl center can do.

i agree our defense is horrible but i think that has a lot to do with the coaching you have to get rid of robinson love the guy what he has done no disrespect but its time to get some fresh blood in there. will it be a trial by error like with oates? yeah of course but id rather seem them bring in some outside hockey talent/minds.

as much as i'd love to have mike green on this team i dont think i could hear all the bitching and moaning over his defense faults! btw im more then happy to have a mike green on this team however i dont think all of you are ready for that..baby steps

Dont get me wrong I think they are both valuable positions. I just think offensive dmen are a little more rare to find and one of the teams biggest problems has been an inability to move the puck out of our own zone.this even with the forwards we have that can make a move the passing from the blueline hasn't been there.

if we were to have a top 2 pick, the most realistic options would be larsson and coutourier.

coutourier is a wing. given the choices, i'd go larsson. god knows its gonna be hard for our young forwards to come in in the next few years.
