The US is never going to field its best, motivated players, so I just don't give a shit.

I am under the impression that this WBC is BIG in the Latin American countries. If so, the US is sort of obliged to join in....half assed or not. I wonder how much interest is shown from Canadian and Italian and Australian fan?

You know, they're trying to drum up interest globally and to field a reasonable teams, so they've gone pretty lax on eligibility. I'm pretty sure it says in the rule book that if you've eaten spaghetti and meatballs at least once in the last six months, you can play for team Italy.
