Thought i'd point out -- Kluber has only started 9 games since the AS break and he is 6-0 with a 2.01 ERA and 67 k's in 61.2 IP

Also -- while I agree with you about Verlander's contract -- it is astronomical. If Kluber is in the Cy Young conversation though -- Verlander is as well. They are having basically the same year.

Kluber has 1 more win and 1 more loss and has a better ERA.

Verlander has more K's, a better WHIP and a better OPP BA

Both pitchers started slow and have been carrying their teams in the 2nd half of the year. Both have 10 straight quality starts.

Should have read the whole thread before responding.

Sale leads right now in my eyes.

Here's two pitchers' stats

Pitcher 1: 185.2 IP / 64 ER / 3.10 ERA / 189 K / 1 SHO / 15-7
Pitcher 2: 183.2 IP / 63 ER / 3.09 ERA / 185 K / 2 SHO / 15-8

One is Sale one is not. I don't see how either has enough over the other to say they're in the lead, and I don't think either is actually leading.

Yeah, you're right. I was including his last start before the ASB. So I guess I should have said "in his last ten starts."

Mea culpa.

I don't agree that they're having the same year, but I agree Verlander could be in the CY. I think he's a slightly longer shot than Sale at this point.

Did Cleveland change their beer prices? I went to a game in Cleveland last year when they played the Tigers and got two beers for 8 bux and almost fell down, because that is cheaper than one beer in Detroit.

Don't know. All I know is that I was buying $10 lg ML drafts last night.

The one with more innings, more Ks a better WHIP and less walks is my leader.

And that's Sale.

Damn, check out this comparison of the two over their last 10 starts:

CK / 69.2 IP / 75 K / 1.94 ERA
JV / 70.2 IP / 78 K / 2.04 ERA

That's pretty wild.

Just for shits n giggles, I took a look at Sale's last 10 in comparison to Verlander's and Kluber's.

CK / 69.2 IP / 75 K / 1.94 ERA / 7-0
JV / 70.2 IP / 78 K / 2.04 ERA / 6-1
CS / 72.2 IP / 76 K / 3.59 ERA / 3-7

One thing I will say about my analysis of CY hopefuls is I may Occam's Razor the stats too much.

Bill James & Rob Neyer came up with a formula to pick who will win the CY based on actual stats (not predicting future performance) and it's really been pretty accurate - I think about 75% over the last fifteen years. It considers innings pitched, earned runs, strikeouts, saves, shutouts, wins, losses and if the pitcher's team won its division.

If I'm evaluating which pitcher I think is better, there's a lot more that I would consider, but given the accuracy of these guys' predictions, I tend to just look at this stuff for CY.

For what it's worth, here's how that formula has the race right now:

Happ
Porcello
Kluber
Hamels
Britton
Sanchez
Sale
Verlander
Miller
Osuna

Speaking of jocks....your old teammate, Khaki Pants, ever get you those sideline passes? Maybe for the Homecoming Game?

September 2 is tomorrow, doug. Have you got your explanation on how the AL Central will be determined by then? Something about Cleveland being "out of the running" or something like that.....

I'm pretty sure Dougplayer meant to state that Det. would be in 1st place in the AL Central by Sept, 22nd and NOT Sept. 2nd

just want to get things right
