This is true, but things are looking up. The Tigers now have three reliable starters (Zimmermann, Verlander, Fulmer). Through the first 5 weeks of the season, they had ONE.

I've said it many times, if the Tiger pitching staff can improve to just mediocre (somewhere around 8th or 9th in the AL), the hitting is good enough that they will contend. But the pitching staff is currently 12th in the AL, and that won't cut it.

Ventura might want to work on his upper-body strength if he is going to start hitting guys again. Someone is going to get hold of him and do him some real damage. I wonder if it might be a good idea for KC to see if they can find a taker for the $20mil they still owe him and let some other team worry about him. But with his numbers this year, KC might not get much back in return.

He really lacks the finer points of pitching. Missing in the strike zone is probably much worse than missing just outside- and he did that plenty last night. A nice long trip in AAA where the egos are a bit less inflated would maybe do him some good.
