Let's wait until JV has more wins than loses and an ERA under 4.50 before we pencil him in for the Cy Young, OK?

I watched the game, I don't remember a big ol ovation, I think a couple people clapped that was about it. Beating the Twins don't make him back to anything, I have confidence you could throw a quality start at the Twins.

doug, in all seriousness....I am not sure Verlander is a sure bet for the HOF. His final few years could be the deciding factor. That bad year in 2008 hurt. And then, after a mediocre 2013, he fell off the cliff. Six good years and one great one (MVP/CY Award). No ring. It would really help if he could reach about 200 career wins. Or get close.

Verlander isn't really close to being a HOFer right now. But LOL @ calling his 2013 season (120 ERA+, 218.1 IP, top 10 in WAR) "mediocre". It was certainly a down year from 2011-12, but it's still a very good year.

Yeah...I guess I could have used a better word or phrase. Maybe 2013 was a step towards the cliff's edge...before the drop? :)

Yeah, and yesterday was his worst of the three, from an ER standpoint (3 ER), but the only one of the three games he won. He lost 2-1 and 1-0 in his previous two starts.

It's that damn Sports Illustrated jinx. This was the 2013 Baseball Preview issue cover.

The Tigers are in good shape, they just need to learn how to pitch, hit, run, catch, slide and generally score more runs than the other team.

They don't need to improve too much to pass the team that is only one game in front of them.

LOL, too true. The Tigers have played like horsesh*t, they have ONE starting pitcher under a 4.50 ERA, and yet they are still only 1 game back of the Royals.

I keep saying similar things about the Wild Card for the Royals. It's been that kind of year so far.

Parity in the AL Central....the White Sox are currently living on Sale and Quintana. If they slip or they fail to find 4th and 5th starters....I think they will fall back into the pack. A four team race of butt-ugly wannabes. Or is that 'ugly butt' wannabes? Currently the White Sox have less pimples on their butt, ''but'' that can change. (Sadly, the Twin's 'butt' is covered with infected carbuncles.)

Damn....I am hoping that Ausmus...or his replacement...can lance that boil called Justin Upton that is showing up all too clearly on the buttock's of the Tigers.
