Brutal loss last night.

Pagan CF
De Aza LF
Duffy 3B
Posey C
Belt 1B
Byrd RF
Tomlinson 2B
Adrianza SS
Peavy RHP

This is apparently the "A" squad for the rest of the year, minus Craw.

G's 2-5 vs. Lorenzen; Schumaker with some slight Peaved ownage.

Leg those legging redlegs....6-3 good guys.

I was out of town for the last week or so. What happened with Panik? Did he tweak his back?

Yup. Lower back inflammation. Out all of August, came back for 3 games, shut down again. Now, he's on the 60 day DL, ending his season.

In other news....the Mac is up!

With Peavy almost guaranteed not to finish the 6th inning, I wonder if Bochy will continue to put in the regular guys from the bullpen or if he'll start to give them more rest and use guys like Gearrin, Bochy, Hall, Broadway and Cain more often. I would think guys like Osich and Strickland especially need some rest. It seems to be playing with fire to continue to run them out.

Gearrin looked good the one game I saw him. I'd like to see him more. And Broadway/Hall pitched well last night.

Gearrin was pretty good with Atlanta before his Tommy John surgery. Both Gearrin and Bochy have pitched one each since coming up, Hall made only his 2nd appearance and Broadway's appearance yesterday was just his third in the month. The two starters moved to the bullpen (Vogelsong and Cain) have made one relief appearance this month. Interestingly, Petit hasn't made an appearance yet in September.
Bochy normally makes great decisions with the bullpen but with the team so close to elimination, I'm surprised he would continue to ride Lopez, Kontos, Osich, Strickland, Romo and Casilla this month.

I think he's gotta keep putting the best effort out there until elimination is a fact, and then rest everyone

I was surprised Boch brought in Romo after working 2 straight games, and throwing a lot of pitches, when he had Gearrin, and Petit (and Vogey/Cain) who are fresh. I think that would have been him putting his best effort in, while testing the new guy Gearrin.

Also, Barry Zito is back in the bigs. Rumor has it that he now WILL start against the Giants in Oakland, facing Tim Hudson in his final game.

I don't really know why Bochy does what he does, none of us do. I was just making a general statement that it's probably too early for Bochy to stop trying to win and just play kids to see what they can do. You may be right about last night, I just think he's still trying to win every game.

Sure, you don't want your players to think you've given up on them this season, but you've also got to think about them for next season too (and beyond that). Considering the past two months, 7.5 games is really hard to overcome.

I think Bochy (and the players for that matter) knows that, but he's gotta go by the unwritten rules on it. He'll probably have 7-8 games at the end to mess around, including the Dodger series, which is sad.

Peavy may actually get through 6 innings! (I know, don't count your innings before the pitch count.)

Peavy is looking OK, but he becomes a completely different pitcher in the 6th.

With a 3-run lead, he should get some rope, though (assuming no more scoring until then)
