I dont see why NJ wouldn't take Patrick he was the consensus number 1 for a couple years now.

Yeah, and Hischier was pretty mediocre over the last 20 games or so of the season (ok, point-per-game, but far less than the nearly 2 points per game he put up before that). Multiple rumors as to why - injury, fatigue, opposing teams figured him out...

I would do everything short of shipping away our #2 pick to get MacDonald traded to Vegas. So, all other picks are in play and also retaining a small portion of the salary if necessary. I feel like this is our one shot to unload him as Vegas will be looking for extra picks and perhaps even extra salary.

If it doesn't happen, bury him in the minors. With Morin, Hagg, Sanheim and Myers quickly on the way, he will have zero place in the top six and keeping him on the bench is also pointless.

I feel like this is absolutely addition by subtraction. That and any cap room created by unloading MacDonald could be used immediately or at the deadline for a significant move to improve our offense via trading for a scorer.

We can also still trade for a better defenseman with a team that can't protect him during the expansion draft and wants something over nothing. I like that idea as well.

Either way, I think we're going to have a much better team here in the next few weeks and it's going to be exciting to watch unfold.

It would also be something special if Nashville were to win tonight and then close out Shitsburgh on home ice in game six on Sunday. I have a good friend that lives only a few miles from downtown and would be able to take part in the celebrations. The area has really embraced the franchise and I wish them the best of luck moving forward.

I still don't move too much value just to get rid of him. 3rd round pick is probably as high as I would go to move him. He would be a fine vet 3rd pair dman / PK specialist, today's value for those is probably 2 million. So you're burning 3 million to keep him. Not that terrible, as long as you have the space, which the Flyers do right now.

Question for me is, do you think the Flyers can be cup contenders in the next 3 years. I think they're right on the edge of that. Next year they should compete for the playoffs, 2 years they should be competitive in the playoffs, 3 years the window is starting to open. Do you make your big FA signigns and/or trades at that point? Because that's when you need to have MacDonald's number off the books. If your plan is to go for it with FA signings and trades in the next 3 years, then now is probably your best chance to move MacDonald. Do it when you want to do it, not when you need to do it. At the same time though, every year you suck up decreases the anchor of that contract. There's always the Arizona's of the world willing to take them with a year or two left.

You've got Simmonds (U), Provorov (R), Konecny (R), Ghost (R), Hagg (R), Morin (R), Sanheim (R), as your potential must signs between now and then, so you shouldn't be put in a tough situation by free agency if you hold MacDonald.

my rationale for that timeline is looking at the Preds and what their D looks like.

Subban - 28
Josi - 27
Ekholm - 27
Ellis - 26

It's probably going to be a few years before the Flyers D coalesces at the NHL level. I think they could get there with Provorov, Myers, Sanheim, and one of Morin/Ghost/Hagg. That could be a dynamite top 4. But it's going to take a little bit of time.

Also probably going to want something serious in net. I'd say Hart is at least 2 years out, Sandstrom is probably 2 years or more out as well. Maybe Stolarz is the answer for the opening of the window, a la Varlamov for the Caps.

Any chance we trade one of our many defenseman for Drouin?

I think getting the #2 pick probably kills any chance of that deal. Between the #2 and Lindblom, the future of the forwards is now starting to round into shape almost as well as the D.

This is what I hate about the NHL officiating.. How the fuck do they let Sid get away with burying Suban's head into the ice and not get a call? Yet they blow the whistle when Suban gets a hold of Sid's head? I hate this double standard BS on calls to the stars.. Preds should have a PP and they don't.

The NHL’s official stance:

“The throwing of objects onto the ice surface is prohibited by the National Hockey League and persons caught doing so may be subject to prosecution for violating local and state laws.”

Looks like Crosby might be going to jail. :nono:  :rolleyes2:

Anyone who has read my posts for the last several years knows i stress above all moving your feet and cut down time and space and you will win 85% of your games. If you have watched each game of the cup the team who has done that has won. I just hope our guys are watching this series and employ that technique into our system.

Can never have too many 50 plus point scorers.

I cant stand Subban on the ice. He may have donated money to kids off the ice which is cool but when i watch him out there he is way more of a puss than Crosby.

What a fucking joke. Nashville should be extremely pissed off after last night, but mostly at themselves. Fucking terrible. How do you rebound to win game 6 and then 7 on the road after that embarrassing result?

They may continue to defend home ice, but nobody would pick them again on the road. Both teams too dominant in their own building.

The non-calls that often led to goals also made it frustrating to watch. That and Crosby being able to do virtually whatever the fuck he wants without repercussions.

If I'm not mistaken, it should've been a two minute minor for unsportsmanlike conduct and a ten minute game misconduct penalty too if you figure he threw the water bottle in protest of a referee decision, which is fair to say.

Sure, but you can also never have too many defensive prospects. Odds are a couple don't pan out. Build down the middle first - Center, D-men, Goalie - then worry about LW, RW last as those 2 positions have the least overall impact on winning and losing in the current NHL.

I hope the Preds fight with everything they have and it goes 7 games. Preferably with them winning it all.
