Not only are you devaluing Tavares, I think you're doing the exact same to Tarasenko.

According to bleacherreport, Tarasenko is the 3rd best right wing in the Nhl.

According to ranker.com, Tavares is the 10th best player altogether in the Nhl. They also rank Tarasenko 15th.

TSN has these guys at 11th and 13th overall respectively among ALL players entering this season.

BOTH OF THESE GUYS ARE ELITE, FRANCHISE PLAYERS.

For comparison sake, Giroux and Voracek didn't even make the top 50 of that TSN ranking entering this season. That might change next season, but it gives you a damn good idea how highly they were thought of after both slumping the previous year.

These guys have elite level history though and I expected them to bounce back. It sure looks like they have. They're doing it without Schenn too, aren't they? Lol

So is what your saying is they are twice as good as Jake and Gee (your Fav) ?

So by this logic Schwatrz and Tarasenko are twice as good as gee and Jake this season because schenn is able to tear it up with st Louis but didn't do it with our guys.

Again its so funny how you flip flopped your entire summer argument of going with youth by looking to sign a high priced free agent.

Not right now, but at times last season, probably. Tarasenko was doing his 40 goal and 75 point thing. Giroux and Voracek were struggling to score or even reach 60 points. Didn't even have 40 goals between the two of them.

Our boys are back doing their thing now and I give them all of the credit in the offseason for getting there.

Taveras IS an upgrade over Schenn that isnt at question, the question is is taveras better for this team at 10-12 million than Schenn is a 5 million and in the summer you guys wanted that 5 million off the books so bad because you said we were going to the youth and now your looking to sign a high priced free agent. Its such a Flip flop.

Schenn from last year was overpaid at 5 million. Had he had a season like he's having now at any point in his career with the Flyers, or even showed a glimmer of being capable of a 1C that puts up around 1 pt per game, my feeling on Schenn last summer would've been different. I'll agree to that.

But he never showed any inkling of being that player while he was a Flyer. Could be him, could be coaching, could be linemates, probably some of all of the above. But the Flyers could allocate 5 mil in a better way than they were allocating it on the Flyers version of Brayden Schenn.

Buyout Lehtera and you've got 3mil more in cap space. I would much prefer this group to one with Schenn and 7 mil more space.

Seems like a nice group with Prov only making 900K. What do you do when he gets 9 and you have Jake and Gee making 8.5 while Taveras is making 12 for years to come. And where is Haag and his 3-5 million?

Also, @las, again, it's a timing thing. I've never said go youth the whole way, develop them, cups will come. You ride the youth until the time is right. I've advocated for, when that time is right, making a big trade to land a high impact forward because that's what's missing. A la Larsson for Hall. Tavares is available as a free agent next summer instead of the trade. I make the move then.

Great allocation of that 5 million and to give it to Lehtera

First, the cap is scheduled to go to 78 mil next year, so there's 3 mil more. Plus the 3 for Lehtera. Plus the 1 chy already had listed.

1.
So you're at 71 mil on the roster with a 78 mil cap for 2018-19.

2. Summer 2020 - Simmonds 3.975, Raffl 2.35, Weal 1.75, Laughton .9, Konecny .9, Provorov .9, Sanheim .9, Elliot 2.75, Neuvy 2.5; Total of 16.925 off the cap. 54.075 mil on the roster. I think 2 mil increase is a safe assumption, so you have 25.925 mil to spend.

3. Where to spend? Provorov obviously. 2 defensemen make 8 or more against the cap. The top 10 make 7 or more. Personally I think Ekblad is a really good comparable for Provorov. #1 dman before he was 20 years old, signed as an RFA. He's at 7.5, i'll give Provorov 8 due to inflation. 62 mil spent, 80 available.

4. You have 7 forwards signed and 6 dmen signed. So you have 18 mil to spend on say 6 forwards a 1 dman and 2 goalies. Hart will likely be one of them, .761. I'll bet lots of money they sign a vet backup, we'll take Neuvy's 2.5 as a the comparable and the placeholder. 14.7 mil remaining, 6 forwards, 1 dman to sign.

5. Prospects to fill the forward ranks; Vorobyev , Allison, Rubtsov, Ratcliffe, and Frost are the guys I'm looking at. Let's say 2 of them bust to be conservative. My money is on Vorobyev (.784), Allison (unsigned, estimate .900), and Frost (.925) in the NHL by then. 3 forwards, 1 dman, 12 mil available.

6. Now it's looking pretty good. Let's re-sign Sanheim to a bridge deal. Let's use Ghost as a comparable, 4.5 mil. 7.6 left for 3 forwards. I'm re-signing Konecny, but he's not breaking the bank as an RFA that hasn't produced much. Generous giving him 3 on a bridge type deal. 4.6 mil for 2 forwards, one that will sit in the pressbox.

A Potential Lineup:
Giroux - Couturier - Konecny
Allison- Tavares - Voracek
Frost - Patrick - ????
Lindblom - Vorobyev - Weise
????

Provorov - Gudas
Ghost - Myers
Sanheim - Morin
MacDonald

Hart
Neuvy-like backup

Obviously lots of different things can play out there. Lines can be whatever you want them to be, just showing the roster in lineup format. That's a damn good team still, even spending those big dollars on Giroux, Tavares, Voracek, and Provorov. Obviously Hagg wasn't retained in this rendition. You could change him out with Sanheim or something if you want. This is just to show what the scenario could be. This puts a good squad on the ice for 2018-19 and 2019-20 at least.

Looking ahead to Summer 2021 the contracts that are up are Weise, Patrick, MacDonald, Gudas, Frost, Rubstov, Lindblom, Hart. 15 million off the books, probably looking to re-sign Patrick, Frost, and Hart at that point. And projecting the 2021 summer and beyond is a senseless exercise. Who knows what the salary cap will be then, what trades the Flyers will have made, etc. But it's reasonable to believe with 15 mil + the cap increase, you can keep the guys you want and fill the holes left by the guys you don't want.

Even just next season Filppula, Read and the Umberger buyout all come off the books. That's $10.125 million in extra cap space and the only key player we will have to re-sign is Hagg. I don't anticipate that being an expensive signing either.

Is this counting the raise in the cap?
We might be near Carey Price range

Ugh Horrible late goal, this defense has a long way to go IMO. Too many breakaways and odd man rushes.

Didn’t catch the first, but really enjoyed the rest of the way. I think NBC convinced them it was a rivalry game, nice chippiness to it.

Giroux, Voracek, and Couturier looking really good this season. I’m very impressed/pleased.
