After the dust settles here, get a couple grit/sandpaper type players. I'm talking about a veteran, defensive defenseman for the second pair (to bring Sanheim along) and a forward that can play up and down the roster, maybe even a center who can win some faceoffs and is strong defensively (essentially someone like Raffl, but more imposing).

We can have a good team right out of the gate if we accomplish this. One that can grow into something great throughout an entire season.

Remember, this is the season we're supposed to make the playoffs again and I bet it happens.

Too much chatter about no heart left. We don’t need any more heartless players. I am agin’ it (that means “against” for all you non southerners.)
I have to say this could be true but maybe he just needs a change of scenery to get his heart back to playing good hockey. I think its a low risk high reward type of move so im for it.

Forwards (13)
Giroux - 8.275
Voracek - 8.25
Hayes - 7.14
JvR - 7
Konecny - 5.5
Couturier - 4.3
Laughton - 3
Lindblom - 3
NAK - 1.075
Laczynski - .925
Farabee - .925
Frost - .863
Allison - .925

Defense (7)
Provorov - 6.75
Ellis - 6.25
Ghost - 4.5
Braun - 1.8
Hagg - 1.6
Sanheim (RFA) - 5 (read an estimate of 4.5-5.25 for 3-5 years)
York - .880

Goalie (2)
Hart (RFA) - 3.5 (read an estimate of 3-4M for 2-3 years, so 3.5 seems reasonable)
Sandstrom - .859

That puts them at 82.317M. Which puts them just over the 81.5M cap.

So JvR would give them 6.5M. Jake would give them 7.75M. Ghost would give them 4M. Hagg would give them 1M. Absolutely need a different backup goalie, Sandstrom was just the only one signed. Wants would be a 2RD and 3C-type.

I think if JvR or Jake is the pick, there's room to add a good backup goalie and either a 3C-type or a 2RD. If Ghost is the pick, there's room for a good backup goalie and that's it. If Hagg is the pick we've probably got a problem.

Yep. And to be honest, after looking at that I'm not sure they have the flexibility to add Tarasenko as well. At least not right now. Obviously back up G is a requirement, and I think 2RD and 3C take precedence over adding a guy like Tarasenko. There's not enough room to do all 3 unless you move Jake AND JvR. With the injury concerns that come with Tarasenko, I don't think I'm for shedding Jake and JvR to bring Tarasenko in (and do everything else they need to do). If Tarasenko is a shell of himself, that's a lot of offense to lose.

I suppose there's a chance they could do the Jake/Tarasenko switch that's been rumored, if Seattle takes Ghost, and still address the backup goalie situation. Tarasenko is 7.5. So if Jake/Ghost move out, Tarasenko comes in, that leaves them with about 4.75M to play with. Enough for a backup goalie and maybe a depth add, but probably not a 3C or 2D.

My priority would be:
Backup goalie (this is a must)
2RD
3C

I am going to prioritize it as the following and hope Hart can get much better than he has been.

2RHD
3C
Backup goalie

How about a Ghost to the Rags and Deangelo to us straight up.

We get a little bit of cap relief and a RHD.

That has to happen regardless. If Hart doesn't get much better the Flyers are probably screwed haha.

But even with a much better Hart, he's probably only going to play 50-55 games. I don't have much faith in Sandstrom (or Lyon if they re-sign him instead) to start 25-30 games and not torpedo their chances.

I'm out on Deangelo. If a mediocre Rangers team thought his baggage outweighed his on-ice value, then it probably does for the Flyers too. Especially if you have leadership and character questions about the Flyers locker room already. Which a lot of you do.

I think Deangelo's career is pretty much over.

Tarasenko only makes sense if either Jake or JVR goes plus Ghost. That allows About $3m for a 2G, $3m for 2RD (I am on the Ceci wagon) and Frost playing 3C.

I Like Cici, he's pretty solid, if it didn't pan out I'd like to see Suter here on a short inexpensive contract to help with the D core too. Plus he still seems reliable.

What about Halak or Dubnyk? Both should be relatively cheap.

Philadelphia Flyers

James van Riemsdyk, LW: The war room agreed that Philadelphia’s available list was a good place to use up cap space for a strong player who can contribute at the top of the lineup. The majority agreed James van Riemsdyk was likely the guy after coming off a resurgent season scoring at a 63-point pace. As deep as the expansion draft looks, there aren’t that many players who can score like van Riemsdyk. Though his contract is pricey, there are only two years left and $7 million isn’t that bad for a 60-point second-line winger. Jakub Voracek was also an option, but the extra year at $1.25 million more was a deterrent. With Dave Hakstol as the coach, there was also some love for Shayne Gostisbehere, who was at his best under Hakstol, looking like a top-pairing player in 2017-18 — his best season. Ultimately, there was a bit too much risk there given his three seasons since. — Luszczyszyn

Halak yes, Dubnyk no. Dubnyk hasn't had a SV% over .900 since 2018-19. I think he's cooked.

Halak is probably on my short list though. Reimer, Bernier, and Ullmark too. Though I think Ullmark will get starter money/opportunity from someone other than the Flyers.

I agree, just figured Dubnyk could fill in a few but you're right he may be done.

I'll be interested to see what Suter gets. He'd be a great fit, but I think he'd be a great fit for almost everyone. I bet he still gets a pretty nice salary, just a lower term than he had with Minnesota. I see him getting something like 2-3 years, 5M. That might be too rich for the Flyers.

I see the Flyers looking more in the bargain bin. Maybe not the ideal 2RD, but a guy that's a 4-5 dman. Was listening to Myrtetus/Meltzer's podcast and they talked about Sanheim being able to play the right side if necessary. So I look at a guy like Oleksiak as being a potentially good fit. Savard, Larsson would be more ideal. But the latter sounds likely to stay in Edmonton and i bet Savard gets a big pay day. Ceci could be a fit, but his advanced metrics are pretty scary. Alec Martinez could be an option, but he may break the bank too.
