It will be a...not so much intriguing six weeks (other than watching a few youngsters who will not be breaking camp with the team) and at the end of it I don't think there will be very many surprises. I don't think I am going out on much of a limb predicting the following 26-man roster when camp breaks:
SP#1 - Gilbert
SP#2 - Kirby
SP#3 - Miller (yeah, it's Miller. Castillo has fallen off)
SP#4 - Castillo
SP#5 - Woo (but if he has a healthy year, he could rise to #3 or #2)
Long relief/spot starter - Hancock (can't keep him in Tacoma another year)
Middle-inning relief - Thornton
Middle-inning relief - Snider
Left-handed relief specialist #1 - Speier
Left-handed relief specialist #2 - Saucedo
Mop-up relief - Vargas
Setup relief #1 - Brash
Setup relief #2 - Santos
Closer - Munoz
DH - Garver
C - Raleigh
1B - Raley
2B - Polanco
SS - JP
3B - Solano
LF - Robles
CF - Julio
RF - Aroz
Utility infielder/outfielder - Moore
Utility infielder - Mastrobuoni
Utility outfielder/DH - Haniger
Players most likely to get optioned to minors - Hancock, Mastrobuoni, Vargas
Players most likely to get traded before the deadline - Castillo, Gilbert, JP, Moore, Thornton, Santos, Solano, Polanco, Robles, Hancock, Bliss, Ford
Players most likely to get released - Haniger, Garver, Mastrobuoni, Vargas,
That should be good for about 83 wins
If any of the top 3 SP’s miss any substantial time whatsoever. This is a sub .500 team for sure.
What a shame…
