A refresher:

Isn't PECOTA always, like, stupid? I know our board poll never had them that high. I was at 85 I think, 3rd wild card. Still very much in play but they gotta put together a 15-7 kind of run.

I had linked to the posters' guesses. I think the highest was 91 wins.

From Brisbee today:

The Giants, by several objective metrics, are not a good baseball team. They’ve allowed 32 more runs than they’ve scored this season. They’ve gotten less value from their starting pitchers than the A’s. They convert fewer batted balls into outs than any team in the baseball other than the Rockies, who don’t count. There are 15 teams in the National League; only three of them have a worse record.
The Giants, according to the only metric that matters for this sort of thing, are still in a postseason chase. They’re a good week away from the third wild-card position. And as you’ve seen from previous winning jags, they can look convincing when they win, with a vitality and confidence that previous teams have lacked. It’s also possible that no team will improve more between now and the trade deadline, with Robbie Ray and Alex Cobb close to returning and Blake Snell looking like his old self. The Giants are about to have the equivalent of an all-in deadline without sending a single prospect away.

It’s almost enough to make you forget the first sentence of this article. And then you remember the first sentence of this article: The Giants, by several objective metrics, are not a good baseball team.

His conclusion:

They should listen. They should make calls. They should propose deals that make other GMs mad. But it’s hard to see them having a transformative deadline, one way or the other.

The Giants should also win their next 14 games to make this decision much easier. I’m known as something of an “ideas man,” and they should listen to me.

This is a reminder that saying a team should sell is easy, but the actual selling is a lot harder than you might think. The Giants are in a weird spot, and you shouldn’t expect a whole lot from them at the deadline if they decide to sell.

No one will argue that point. That's obvious

When is the trade deadline? Giants are going to have to make a decision soon if we are selling or buying. We already lost our 3rd and 4th picks due to signing Snell and Chap, and we will be losing both after the season. Not interested in giving away more young players if we are not contending. So we should trade them for something if we can’t get better really quick.

1. deadline is August 1
2. Unlikely either Snell or Chap opts out, but we can hope.
3. We will not be buyers
4. We probably won't be sellers.

I think they both opt out especially Snell if he has games like his last two starts. Chap I think has good enough numbers where his agent can get him more money.

I hope you're right, but I doubt Snell is going to find $30M for 2025 anywhere else.

Lets trade Snell to the Yankees or the O's for a couple good prospects.
