Did you read it?

Jalen Pickett signed a 4 year contract worth 8.2 mill with the Nuggets. 5.8 mill guaranteed so not a lot. He was also a 2nd round pick in the 2023 draft.

Undrafted players also get them as well.
Yea I read it DJ. The point of the post is why the Lakers did what they did when there is no apparent rush seeing that very few teams were really interested in him even before the draft.

I think they are saying that guys loyalty could evaporate when the team that drafted them doesn’t have the advantage of offering the super max.

If all things are equal money wise, would a player still stay in a small market if a big city team came knocking?

I think they would as long as they are winning.

But there have been exceptions.

Utah got left at the alter twice.

First, Deron Williams declined to stay and got traded to his team of choice, the dogshit Nets.

Then a Healthy Hayward left for Beantown.
Well maybe Utah is just fucked lol

I wanted him too.

Can’t they go get John Collin’s instead….lol

Becuase Collins wouldn’t cost you serious draft capital

Capital Frank didn’t use when they were actual contenders

Why would he spend it now

Trade what?

Pretty sure they have to send out 75% of what DFS makes.

And they have spent a lot of their cap space.
He makes like 14 mil.

Last I saw, they were 10 mil under the apron.

Again, Lillard stayed in Portland for over 10 years. Mitchell resigned in Cleveland. The point you made about small markets is not true, it doesn't have to do with the small markets, it has to do with competing at high level.

You also said Mitchell wasn't that good of a player where you can build around him and not a franchise player. Well now we know that is not true as well. He is a top 15 player in this league. He has proved he is right there at a superstar level.

Cmon man.

No, he is not superstar level.

And no, I don’t believe you can build “around him”.

I think you need to go Celtic mode where you have a team with 4-6 really good players if he is your best and you want to contend.

Every situation is different.

Guy just chose on to stay for 3 years guaranteed and your thought was "OK, but now he might ask to be traded" and not in you to say you thought he'd walk when he could simply walk?

You are trying to put words in my mouth.

He chose the option to stay because he thought is was in his best interest.

That is all that we know.

Now your FO better figure out how to improve the team now that he is under contract.

I’m talking about the 6ers getting Collins.

I’d take him if they want Westbrook again along with Tucker, filler and a 2nd rounder for their trouble, if he didn’t have so many years left on his deal.

Right.

You almost lost Reaves because they didn’t give him a multi year deal.
And how good is Reaves? He is decent and he is developing. Just like Rui Hachimura is decent but he is developing. Yet both have been routinely mentioned in trades. Meanwhile, the Lakers are often characterized by two superstars surrounded by role players.

OK...but I'm pretty sure you had said he will not extend in Cleveland. did you guarantee it like some others? Maybe not, but do believe it was your opinion.

No words put in your mouth unless I am wrong about that and you don't even seem to think I am.

I don’t remember.

But if you are going to claim that I said it?

Then find the proof.

Because they drafted him and he wasn't going to be released?
