Not really, all comes down to how much each team is willing to give via S&T (and which package the Warriors like more). If it's MLE, it's LA since Dallas already used part of theirs on Marshall
Really.

Ultimately, at the end of the day, they both could sign Klay outright," Windhorst on Get Up. "And when Klay makes his choice, he can go to either place. But, right now, I do believe the Mavericks are ahead, not only with Klay, but also in their pursuit of a transaction that works."

"I think the Mavericks can get Klay Thompson to a contract in the neighborhood of about $67 million, $68 million," Windhorst said. "That is now the goal the Lakers have to to try to hit themselves in a sign-and-trade package. So Klay is obviously going to take his time. We'll see how it plays out today, but I think it's really a stare down between the Mavericks and the Lakers at this point."

Using the more than the TPMLE portion of their MLE on Marshall hard caps them at the first apron. They are only about $4M under than apron right now. That exception doesn't seem like it impacts much?
I believe they have to send out Josh Green and another piece.

Yeah, buddy.

I think you are wrong.

But, I got my own problems.

So I don’t care enough to look up the specifics on the math that Windy, Bontemps, McMahon and Marks are using.

Likely Kleba. Do the Warriors really want those 2?
I'm not sure what they want but it really doesn't matter. They can acquire pieces/picks to flip which could help them in a Mark trade. Are the Lakers really going to give up all their role players? They are in the tougher spot to make it work but they can get it done

Using the MLE hard caps your team at the first apron. It's why Lebron has to give up nearly $20M to get far enough under the tax to get that $12.8M under the $178M line. Dallas is already at $174M and used part of that MLE on Marshall (the only way they could sign him, being over the cap). So it's a S&T only for Dallas that still has to stay under $178M total.

All Dallas has are 2nd rounders? Maybe they still have their 2031 1st?

All this said, I'm not really sold on trading $20-25M worth of salaries for Thompson in a S&T for the Lakers. If he takes the MLE sure, but that doesn't look likely right now.

I don’t know what math they are using, if they are using exceptions to sign Marshall etc….

But that came from a article posted at 11:25 est today and had the Marshall deal factored in.

Don't they have to use an exception to sign Marshall? They are well over the cap.

I am pretty sure he is going to want more than the $13M from either team.

Mavs have Kleber $11M, Green $12.6M, Grimes $4.2M, Powell $4M. None of those guys are big losses.

Lakers have more to give but more impact players.

DLo $18.6M, Gabe $11.M, Vandy $10.7M, Wood $3M

Nitpicking, but I don't believe Grimes can be aggregated in a trade since they just acquired him. He can be flipped, but not with other players.

Wouldn't the Warriors want more valuable pieces to flip in their trade attempt with Utah? Not sure Utah will want any of those Mats pieces. DLo and Wood are at least expiring. Vando is a reasonable cost-controlled contract.

Yeah you're right. I just threw him in there but I think their plan is to flip Green and Grimes will be a bench piece. Makes sense with Green being more expensive.
