Even it changes, all players would do is sign shorter contracts for the max if they have doubts about the organization. Instead of a 5 yr deal, let me sign a 2 yr deal or a 3 yr deal with a player option after year 2. Good luck thinking any top player will sign a 4 or 5 yr max if they add some silly rule to prevent players from demanded trades after signing a max deal

Injuries are very much a thing, so more will lock in the biggest number possible that you may think.

There is really nothing Silver can do about it.
He’s too much of a pussy to even want to. It’s simple, the spirit of the supermax has gone away, completely.

Some might, but then they at least have to think about injuries, which the team takes the full brunt of if they can’t fulfill their contract. In any event, that is a much fairer situation.

Not if they add a rule about not requesting trades. Maybe the guys on the consistent franchises and/or big markets (Lakers, Celtics, Heat, Warriors, Sixers, and etc)

A player on a team like Portland or Charlotte may say fuck it. 2 yr deal and sign a longer deal with a better franchise

What else is there, other than Summer League? Harden's trade has dried up even more than Dame's.
I get that but there's not much new on the Dame front either lol. Basically nothing changed so it is basically a stale debate right now until new info is known

I say this happens a lot less than one might think. Right now it’s turned into a best of both worlds kind of thing. Generally not sustainable.

Who was suggesting a rule about not requesting trades? I suggested extending the 1 year moratorium to at least 2 years to protect the team more. If not that, they could alter what happens if players decide to sit out in protest of a trade.

Players can always take a smaller deal if they want to pressure a franchise or even move on. Lebron's made a career of that since Miami. Dame didn't, he locked in to the absolute max money and years. He signed that contract, and it should be more binding than it is being treated as. He's not anywhere near as onerous as someone like Harden and he's playing the good guy, but reality is he signed a supermax and asked out as soon as he was eligible to be traded.

After Portland failed to do what they told him...and the GM said give them some more time.
This is the most overblown part of this whole deal. Lillard is signing that extension no matter what.

So we shouldn't talk about it because you said so?

Fuck off.

He had to, he couldn't be traded until the new league season started.

Would you dump a top prospect like Scoot for an underwhelming trade package (Portland said they didn't get offers that made sense), especially under the time limits of the draft? If they had #2 instead of #3 (or if Charlotte hadn't repeatedly hedged their pick publicly), maybe they get a trade done in advance of the draft and this all is avoided.
