I saw some random trade on the internet that had initially intrigued me, but looking deeper gave me real concerns.

KAT for Rozier, Washington, 2 1sts.

What I learned is PJ Washington might be the worst rebounding big in the league and Rozier's outside shot has consistently dropped for 3 years in a row and is down to 32%.

I have never been more excited and then disappointed in an imaginary trade that was never going to happen.
That's just not enough return. Minny would never do this. I think Cane is in love with PJ Washington, which makes sense bc the guy is nothing special. His ability to spread the floor was his best trait early in his career and it has declined every year. Like you said, not a great rebounder. Not a great defender. Meh

Pretty sure he isn't willing to reverse course at this point and what moves can they make that would make them a contender (which is what he has wanted for years)?

Any moves would likely have to wait at least until next month if they want to dangle Scoot.

Ultimately, the real problem is Miami's lack of assets. First available 1st round pick is 2028, which doesn't help a Portland rebuild now. Herro is duplication of Portland's current assets, and Robinson's contract is a hindrance. Portland could take Lowry's expiring contract to match salaries and back up Scoot, but they would need basically all of Miami's young assets in return (including Jacquez) and still there are issues with Miami's inability to take back more salary then they send out due to being over the 2nd apron. A 3rd team needs to be in play, and finding a fit so far has been tough.

At first glance looks great though. Keeping a stretch big while adding a good scorer in Rozier. Hard pass wit ha deeper look though.

Um ....2 years ago he made 37% and 3 years ago he made 39%....not like he made 32% the last 3 years.

He is just 28. Hard to say he is washed at that age.
You have pointed out the trend. His percentage has declined 3 consecutive years, while the volume has stayed consistent. This last year was the biggest drop off, but at this point I imagine his bounce back if he gets it is around 34%

But if you look at the bigger picture, your starting point was his high water mark and a bit of an outlier. His two years before last were more or less on pace with his career numbers. Since his 3rd year in Boston when his role increased, he has shot 38.1, 35.3, 40.1, 38.9, 37.4 before last year's dip to 32.7. He missed 19 games himself and Ball missed 46, both of which would've been factors in his drop.

He was forcing more shots last year with all the injuries....career high in FG attempts.

He should be able to get to his career % of 36-37.

I am happy if I end up wrong, but I am happy I won't have to hope for it on the Wolves.

Harry Giles had a strong workout in Vegas, could make his way back into the league.

That's what I was implying, that they would need to move Simons as a potential complication.

I don't see the great fit for the Celtics either. Dame's contract is only going to get more troublesome as he ages out (plus he would need to shift his views towards teams other than the Heat).

If I'm Portland, I don't move Dame to Miami without that offer getting a lot better (and it's hard to see a path for that to happen). Portland might be better off making other moves to placate Dame to get him to reverse course?

This is what happens when you don't go "all in" when you have a special talent like Dame.

Had they fully committed to putting a contender around Dame or traded him a few years ago when folks were saying they should...they likely aren't in this position.

I know Joe Cronin gave some explanation where he talked about "trying to put a contender around Dame" and that they just weren't able to find anything that "made sense".

He never gave an example of what they tried to do.

What max level guys did they make a bid on that chose a different team? What big trades did they try to make to get a max level guy?

If they take big swing and they miss...at least they took the swing. In a bid to try to put one more contender around Kobe, the Lakers brought in Dwight and Steve Nash. That went about as bad as a move like that can...but they still get credit for taking the big swing.

Maybe I'm forgetting something, but the closest I can remember is getting past his prime Melo.

And that's not to absolve Dame of the mixed messages he has put out and not putting pressure on the FO to get something done. Didn't he once say he's not going to try to recruit other players? Or am I thinking of someone else?

But, end of the day, Dame can't sign any FA's or make any trades...so it's on the FO to know what they have and try to build around it.

Exactly....that is why this isn't all on Dame.

He is just fed up....finally.

They made a WCF but that has been the 1 year they really played well....not the norm of his career in Portland.

I don’t know that he is really “fed up” per se. I think he is finally to the point he can stomach trying to do something because it is being allowed.

There isn't much the commissioner can do about players wanting to be dealt when they are fed up and want to try and win....

I just don’t agree that he is fed up. Fed up would be if he had came close to leaving and such, which he hasn’t. He’s using a loophole, one that will be closed eventually in my opinion. Im rooting for him to be in Miami, that doesn’t make it good for the league though.

Portland could have prevented this from happening
