Or a rule that is lilting for both the team and the player. It’s not unprecedented. They already have rules in place that limit when a guy can be traded after he signs a new deal. Here it is:

Players who sign for a super max deal can not be traded for two calendar years after signing the contract. I think 2 years is a fair number so the small market team gets at least two years of run out of the player before shenanigans can happen.
Yup, no one seems to have an answer for the fact that the supermax only exists to give small markets a chance to keep their players. People don’t want to talk about that.

I don't buy point 1. Is the impression teams want to put forth that they are willing to be pushed around?
No, they don't want players thinking they won't work with them if they want out.

Agreed, but the league will look at it differently in an effort to keep games shorter. They could eliminate a lot of wasted time by just having a booth ref view questionable calls instead of the guys on the floor. It's human nature to not want to reverse your own call anyway, should be taken out of the floor officials' hands.

Yep, expedited review with league officials at a central location.

Other players have let it be known there is just 1 team they want to go to.

Flipping Herro will get them what they need to satisfy Portland IMO. It will just take time....

Or this game of chicken ends and Portland takes back less than what they want.

Kawhi kind of did this too.

Toronto decided to trade for him anyway even though they weren’t on his preferred list.

And they won a ring.

Dame is trying to create leverage where there really isn’t any. People in general are just way too far on the side on franchise/ownership in these issues.

Portland does not have to trade Dame to Miami. They don’t have to trade him at all. They can call his bluff. He is under contract.

What the league might try to do is create some language to make it easier for the team to not pay the player who is sitting out in this scenario.

But until Dame actually makes that decision to sit out?

He hasn’t done anything to dishonor his contract.

There were definitely some better options but the Cavs weren't going to take Dame after drafting Kyrie.

Yeah it is, too bad he didn't get hurt at Cuse...would have saved the Cavs
He was already coming off the bench. I don't recall him ever being a starter at Syracuse.

I don't understand how that's a plus. The player should only concerned with whether the front office will do whatever it takes to win.

I agree with all of it.....and while he is under contract for 4 years.....I do not think they would want to bring him back for next season if he still feels this way. They do not want a pissed off player in that locker room. And before somebody says Dame would not cause any problems in the locker room.....I don't think anybody in here would have guessed his agent would be calling other teams telling them he wants to be in Miami.

Its a game of chicken basically.

Lol yeah they will be on my over parlay when it is made available on fanduel. This number seems low

They're a tough read. How sustainable was that late run from last year? Given that Lebron and DLo were out for considerable portions of it, they should be on a similar pace. Roster is a bit more balanced now, and they actually have continuity for most of the roster for the first time in many years.

A game of chicken perhaps, but Portland shouldn't swerve. Don't make the trade until you're happy with the return.
