another absurd comment as guessing without hindsight (which is how teams draft) they don't consider it a win if they trade down and don't get the guy they want...

Congrats!

You found 1 other dude who got it just as wrong as the Cavs!

Teams trading up to #1 in weak drafts and implying they can still get the guy they want at 5-6 as though it's a sure thing is, in fact, absurd.

Dude.

I never said they could for sure get their guy at 5 or 6.

They might have been able to get their guy at 5 or 6.

And since he absolutely sucked, it would have been a blessing if someone else sniped him.

The only player thay was not grouped in as just top 5 was Oladipo, and he was still just viewed as top 3. There was no clear cut 1, and the draft was famously weak. Bennet was a headscratcher, but your hindsight take and imaginary trade back options are not real impressive here.

It was a very weak class.

But if 1 guy is viewed as “top 3” when everyone else is “top 5”?

Then guess what?

He is number 1.

Oladipo was the guy most had at the top.

And yes, I definitely believe that teams would have been willing to give up something to move up and draft Dipo instead of say Alex Len or whoever else landed later.

Have to take advantage of the value on the board when you have 1.1

I look forward to future tlance hot takes. Blockbust should have taken streaming more seriously. VHS over beta max.

Have any strong takes on the current wars of the 1800s?

Definitely a fair point but what were they willing to give up? A weak top class changes everything. Bad pick by CLE but if the price to move down was lackluster, CLE just said fuck it and went with their guy. That’s just how it plays out sometimes. For all that we know, CLE wanted to move down but the offers were shit. So instead they took a shit pick. All works out lol

I just don’t believe that there weren’t decent offers out there.

Well in any decent offer, you expect a future 1st at least for the #1 even in a weaker class. No way of knowing

Bennett was a reach....LOL.
OK, no one said otherwise. but there were some who had him going top 3 or even #1. so the idea we could have traded down and still gotten him at 5-6 is far from a fact.

Before you reply, regroup and get caught up in the discussion.

Dude, it is draft capital 101.

In every sport, franchises that manage their assets best tend to succeed.

Franchises who give away value and make major reach picks tend to fail.

Cleveland has done well for the most part.

But this pick was a massive fail on multiple levels.

So bad I would expect it to be part of Wizard, King or Timberwolves lore.

cool...but know way of knowing there were, either, but that doesn't help your narrative I realize. An offer? Probably. Decent? Who knows.

I did not say that man.

I did say they should have traded down to 5 or 6.

I also picked trading down further in my initial post because it would have made it more likely that somebody else might have made that mistake.

But you are stuck on your own personal misinterpretation of my original point.

So do you.

It's a bad pick on one level. The multiple levels are based on no more than hindsight guesses that fit your narrative.

Oh, the irony....In fact, you did say they should trade down to 5-6 and take him there. You are making hindsight moves that you think are factual to support your agenda which would be you doing you.

Reality is that it's just as likely the Cavs were made no serious offers for the pick and didn't want to risk losing their guy...and yes, him being their guy is a mistake. On one level.

You also ignore some did have Bennett at top of their board or near top.

Your view of imagined draft offers does neat and all. As everyone including you has pointed out, no top end talent. Why would any team give up picks value in an all time weak draft.

Trades don't exist just because you think someone should make them. Nobody, literally nobody, is arguing Bennett was the right pick. We are all laughing at you combining hindsight with fantasy to critique what actually happened.

I guess to be fair the guy who puts no thought into anything (dj) believes Tlance here.

I have seen the light. Instead of just using the pick Cleveland should have traded it to Miami to get James back. Wasted potential by not taking that trade.

Dj has only agreed that Bennett was a bad pick that I have seen. And DJ is a solid poster imo.

It appears the year before Bennett was traded with Wiggins for Love, the Cavs offered the #1 pick for Aldridge. Declined.
