Because of all the of stuff that happens during the next six and half weeks before the 2023 NFL Season starts on September 9th, I thought a thread dedicated to the Patriots training camp specifically, would keep all of the stuff in one place rather than starting three or four threads regarding information that happens specifically during training camp.

We can start our annual weekly game threads once the preseason games start.

Onwenu hurts. We need him healthy.
I get this feeling that BB plans to keep him on the side for the first two preseason games.

Jake Andrews will show BB that he's made the right choice putting him at RG and Onweue will come back for the final preseason game and start at RT and play the entire year there.

I easily can see this OL:

T Brown, Strange, D Andrews, J Andrews, Owenue

Sidy will back him up.

It'll be a dogfight for a final spot between Ferentz, Reiff and Anderson. Ferentz will most like get it because he's younger and has filled in at C, G and if the roof caves in can play RT.

Tomorrow 90 guys hit the grass behind Gillette.

Here are some of "MY" questions:

1. JuJu hasn't taken a single pass from Mac. He was injured during all of the spring OTAs and Mini-camps. Is he capable of catching up to the rest of the WRs? Or will he tweak that injury and be on the IR for the first 8 weeks of 2023?

2. Trent Brown showed up for the final Mini-camp, fat, slow and just plain bad. He has supposedly been working his ass off to get back into top physical condition. TBOT is in his contract year. He's 30 years old and this will most likely be a big one and his last. Has he gotten into good enough physical shape to pass the annual Patriots Conditioning Test? Will he be the beast who will be protecting Mac's blind side?

3. Bill O'Brien is the third OC in three years for Mac Jones. Will Mac go back to 2021 and be the same QB he was under Josh? Or was he the real thing and be the same QB as he was under Matt Patricia?

4. Is BOB the answer to the Patriots being 0-7 in 2022 in games where the opponent scores 25+ points and 1-17 in games where opponents have scored 25+ points since TB12 departed?

FINALLY........................

5. On the first day of training camp 2022, we immediately heard that the offense looked dysfunctional and Mac looked confused and MP and JJ didn't look like they knew what was going on. Will 2023 be a complete 360?

I guess time will tell.

New England Patriots offensive tackle Trent Brown is spending his summer vacation hard at work, in hopes of leaving last season’s dismal showing behind him. Trent Brown appears to already be locked in to improving his performance for 2023.

Weight management has been a notable part of Brown’s career, especially in New England. The contract he signed with the team last year included significant weight clauses. Coming into camp he seems to be managing things well. His listed weight of 370 pounds is exactly the same as it was at this point last year.

Ummm, I hoping they do a 180. A 360 would put them back where they started.

Interesting things are happening.

Every player on the team showed up at Gillette yesterday. ONE DAY EARLY!!!!! Players worked out by themselves and the media was restricted from the practice field.

Lawrence Guy is in camp after threatening to hold out. Did he get a bump in pay??

When asked about Jack Jones, BB quote "He'll be out there!"

GET THIS:

Zero contact until next week.

BB has historically spent the first two days of camp getting Goal Line DEFENSE and OFFENSE into smash mouth football.

The next four days will be running, conditioning and isometric stretching. WRs and QBs will, of course, be running specific routes to get timing down. Next week the hitting starts and BB said that players better not expect two-hour practices.

Boston media is already bitchin' because there's nothing to bitch about. So they start to create "controversy".
1. Is T. Brown really in shape and what about his attitude?
2. Jack Jones has a court date on Aug.19. Is he going to prison?
3. JuJu missed all of the OTAs and Minis. Is he ready for Patriots football?
4. Can't evaluate players because they won't be doing football things.

Instead of making something about the entire team showing up one day early, they just have to try to find something negative.

Attitude will be great, at least to start
2. Jack Jones has a court date on Aug.19. Is he going to prison?
August 19 will be preliminary fluff at best. Delayed, postponed, continuance...whatever. Unless the DA has already agreed on heavy fine lots of community service.

I'm reasonably sure his head has been in the playbook and he has probably been snapfacing with team mates coaches with questions.

Yeah, this. It's Boston. Anything positive is just ball washing.

As a side note.

According to Tom Curran, Jack Jones is working with the 2's as a "just in case" scenario because of his upcoming court date on 8/17. If he's still suited on opening dat the starters will be Gonzalez and J. Jones on the edges and Johnathan Jones in the slot. Dugger and Phillips will be the Safeties. No matter how things wash out, I still like this secondary.

After watching three days of no contact and all of the work has been Red Zone, there are a few concerns.

Neither Thorton of Bourne have caught a single pass. I have no target numbers but Mac has pretty much been singling out Hunter Henry as his favorite 'go-to' guy.

Mac Jones, not under any pressure hasn't lit up the field. Hey, defense has all advantages because they know it's all passing. Mac isn't hitting 50% of his throws.

As an aside, DHop has just been spectacular in Tennessee. Saw a couple of clips of him in practice. The most impressive was a single handed sideline catch with a CB draped on him. The comment after practice on that same clip?? "Hey, I do practice hard." Nothing like throwing ice water on someone's face on a hot day? Remember the conversations in here about him and practicing??

Tomorrow the Patriots start wearing Pads. Temp up there have been in the high 80's. Hopefully it stays up there and these guys have to suffer a bit. CBA has really put a crimp in practices. Bill used to start the first three days in full contact in the Red Zone. One day was always three hours of Offense and Defense from the two yard line. It immediately separated the men from the boys. First three days now are restricted to shorts, shirts and helmets and no touching. Pretty hard to evaluate anything.
