New England Patriots: C+

Best Pick: I liked fifth-round guard Atonio Mafi more than I liked their fourth-round guard Sidy Sow. Mafi is a mauler who just needs to improve his technique since he was a defensive player to start his college career. The Patriots will do that for him.

Worst Pick: They took a a kicker in Chad Ryland from Maryland in the fourth round. Why? You can find kickers. And it's not like Ryland was automatic. Kickers come and go. Don't like it. At least they waited to take the punter in the sixth.

The Skinny: They had seven picks in the first five rounds, but I am not sure they used them very well. First-round corner Christian Gonzalez will be a star. The kicker made no sense. I didn't love second-round edge Keion White or Sow. Sixth-round receiver Kayshon Boutte has a ton of talent, but has off-field issues that Bill Belichick will have to fix. Smallish receiver Demario Douglas is one of my Better-Than guys in this draft. A kicker and a punter in the same draft? That's over-thinking it.

I only remember one game, the Buffalo game where the STs were atrocious. But we still needed a K and P regardless, didn't BB release our punter prior to the draft?
We dropped him and he broke!
We had the worst ranked ST's in NFL
We had the 2 worst punters in the NFL
We had a kicker who could no longer kick off and could no longer kick 50+

Miami picked up Bailey and when he was interviewed he said he could not tolerate the excercise.
His back injury kept him from performing. When he was interviewed, he said "I'm "OK" now"
Ok? Sounds "good enough" (for Miami)

I have no idea how the fuck Prisco has a job. Taking a punter and kicker in this draft, both serious needs, was a great idea IMO in that they've already played together and they can actually grow together on the team. If we end up with the best ST's in the NFL within the next two years will it still be a head scratcher especially when you consider how many picks we had? I guess we should've take five TE's and then cut four of them in training camp?

There was that blown holding call that led to a KO return TD in another game (which was cast as a ST failure), but I really chock that one off to "them are the breaks"...

Bill will let players walk.
Bill will resign players that are key and he will have difficulty replacing with quality players.

A quality kicker/punter is a key player for the team. Absolutely key position.

Vinitari played longer for the Colts but is still widely regarded as a Patriot. Ghost kicked for the Pats until he couldn't kick anymore.
This guy is a fucktard.

Because no one else wants the job.

The point IMO was why take a player in round 4 you could have gotten in round 7? Yeah we know there is a need just way early is what they are saying

We needed them, we had the picks, and we got them is the way I’m looking at it. If they were gone in the later rounds that would’ve sucked. I’m happy with this draft.

Because someone else might take them in rd 5?

Read rumors today Bill really wanted Hendon Hooker at 76.
Gone, should have traded up.
I also read today that Bill really wanted Dawand Jones and traded up to 112 to get him only to have Cleveland take him at 111.
Did word get out while Bill was wheeling on who he was going after?
Is it even true?

Standard reporting. If you disagree you report it as a mistake.
They are mighty reporters and Bill is just a coach.
If you are not sure - it's the Patriots so bashing their choices is always a crowd-pleaser.....

Cleveland made some bizarre picks. They lost a couple of OL and had a need and they waited to get Jones.

The Browns had no first or second round pick.

Let's not forget how bad the kicking game alone was.
I am not questioning the need for either positional pick, just where we selected them. Maybe BB felt like any skill player he coveted (TE) was no longer available so grab the best STs guys still available. I am not disappointed just surprised a bit.
