Patriots signed Louisville QB Malik Cunningham.

Cunningham (6’0/192) looks and plays like a discounted version of Lamar Jackson. Their on-field demeanor and pre-snap motions look eerily similar, which could be a coincidence or a product of them spending a year together at Louisville. Cunningham confirmed his speed with a solid 4.53 40 time at the combine but will need to improve as a passer at the next level. His 120 total touchdowns beat the previous record set by Jackson. While he may never excel as a full-time starter, Cunningham’s speed and familiarity with read options and RPOs will make him an interesting pick for teams running similar schemes. Whether or not he’d play well enough to earn a QB2 role is to be determined, but Cunningham’s athleticism will spark the curiosity of play-callers looking for a multi-tooled quarterback.

Patriots selected Jackson State DB Isaiah Bolden with the No. 245 pick of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Bolden was an integral part of Jackson State football team’s that won back-to-back SWAC championship under Deion Sanders. He’ll bring experience as a press-man corner on Patriots team where he will get a shot.

Patriots selected Michigan State CB Ameer Speed with the No. 214 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Speed ran a 4.33 40-yard dash at Michigan State's Pro Day per Dane Brugler's The Beast. He was a special teams-first player for most of his career before transferring to Michigan State as he was stuck on Georgia's depth chart. His 6-foot-3, 210-pound frame projects well outside, but he'll be a project and special-teamer for Belichick's boys rather than someone they're counting on big snaps from in 2023.

Patriots selected Liberty WR Demario Douglas with the No. 210 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Douglas (5'9/179) spent the last two seasons as the WR1 in Hugh Freeze's offense. During his tenure with the Flames, Douglas totaled 172 receptions for 2,193 yards and 16 touchdowns. Serving primarily as a slot specialist, Douglas brings a 4.44 40-yard dash to the Patriots, and an ability to work in the short and intermediate parts of the field along with the screen game. Given his slender frame, Douglas will need to exercise caution when working across the middle of the field, but his ability in the return game could make him an immediate contributor on special teams.

Patriots selected LSU WR Kayshon Boutte with the No. 187 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Boutte (5’11/195) hit the ground running for the Tigers as a true freshman in 2020, posting a 45/735/5 line that included an SEC record 308 yards receiving against Ole Miss. He was building on that breakout campaign through his first six games of 2021 (38/509/9) before suffering a right ankle injury that eventually required two surgeries. He wasn’t the same in 2022 (48/538/2 in 11 games) before bombing the pre-draft process with a 4.50 40-yard dash and terrible jump and agility numbers. His 4.99 relative athletic score out of a possible 10.0 does not predict future NFL greatness. Boutte’s NFL prospects are all about getting healthier and re-establishing his top-end speed and underneath twitch ability. If so, he has the frame to qualify as a size/speed threat in a league getting smaller and smaller at wideout.

It'll be very interesting to see which UDFAs sign with the Patriots.

Even more interesting to see which one(s) makes the 53 man roster.

There's a lot more room than 1st glance shows.
Last years underperforming players will be on thin ice.
Drop a pass, miss a tackle or break a fingernail and you're gone!

Looks like a few guys are going to get a real chance to be ST players.

If they play the sideline, ST will have speed to burn. Hope they can tackle.
