By getting rid of TDA via waivers we ate 1.66 million and if we add that to Sean Walkers salary of $2.65 million it will cost us $4.31 to replace a 42 point defenseman with a 13 points defenseman .
If there was a cap issue, I may agree. Walker can play better in the defensive zone and they obviously didn't want TDA around. We may never know the real reason, but he is not a loss. A 42 point defenseman on this team is meaningless. A couple of long years are ahead.

Definitely a couple of long years ahead but getting nothing for a 42 point defenseman is not the greatest move we've ever made.

It would appear that nobody wanted him at $2.5 million. DB would have pulled the trigger for a bag of pucks, but teams can no sign him for less. Doesn't appear that anyone is banging at his door and he will probably sign for close to $1 mill before camp.

Not much in here that even a casual fan doesn’t know already.

Sure is hockey summertime.
As difficult as it may be to get motivated for a season when it appears that we're in the early stages of a full rebuild, I am still excited to see what is yet to come. What can Torts do with this team full of youngsters, a few really good gamers, arguably a couple of elite talents (Konecny and Couturier) and with some decent vets sprinkled in?

Could we somehow actually surpass last season's point total of 75 with a squad that is minus Hayes, Provy and DeAngelo? If Couturier and Atkinson come back 100% healthy and have above average years, plus we have a couple more kids step up and perform at the Nhl level, I suppose that is actually very possible.

In a lot of ways, I assume the team is being shaped to the liking of one John Tortorella and if we have more of a tight-knit team of players that all buy in fully, they are very likely going to perform better and more consistently at the end of the day. That and we are bound to have someone like Farabee, Foerster or York have a breakout season, much like a Tippett or Cates just did.

I think they are shedding all the negative attitudes. If they play hard every night and as a unit, I’ll be watching.

Ditto. If they give 100% like they did last season i will watch every game.

Last season was a joy to watch compared to the season before.

TDA 1 year @ $1.6 with Carolina. Got him for nothing and saved $.9 mill on their cap.

Yea this is why I'm not ready to anoint Briere as a genius yet. This was a bad move all the way around. Hopefully there was more to it than what we know, but I doubt it.

I think that was a move made by emotions (we need to get rid of this guy) vs. business (hold onto him until we get something). I guess they decided they could not realistically get Karlsson and added TDA for their 3rd pairing.

Closer to $1.7 so basically the saved $825K and basically screwed us in the process.

Not a good look for Danny B.

If we need to get rid of this guy i'm good with that but we had a whole summer to do it. We didn't need to just waive him 3 weeks ago when we had a lot more time to negotiate with 29 other teams or really like 10- 12 realistically.

I agree, he is taking some rookie lumps. Hopefully he learns from this and pays back teams like Carolina for screwing us.

I agree they could have waited. I also doubt 10 - 12 teams would have been interested in him at $2.5. Anyway, another incredibly bad WFC move that stings for an extra year with the picks and cap hit.
