That’s awfully young to try to figure it out AND be fully cooked by 25.

If FZ does it, I will trust that it is a good move. But right now I just don’t see it.
Seems like a reasonable gamble to me. Two years to figure things out on a minimum salary.

The salary isn’t the thing. The roster spot is the cost.

Again, and I stress this…

I have never heard of this guy and know nothing about him. I am basing my entire argument on his age and his minor league numbers. That is not a lot to go on.

I generally agree with you but I don't think Solano comes back. The Giants have Estrada and he provides more versatility. However, I may change my mind if the Giants decline the option on Flores.

I don't think 1 million brings back Leone. He could use this season to get a multi-year (think 2 years) deal and probably closer to 5 million (rough estimate) over those 2 years.

Ruf is not a free agent. He'll be arbitration eligible this year and next year.

A few players don't need to be on your list. Tauchman and Moronta are a minor league free agents so there is no arbitration decision needed. Sherfy and Tromp are not in the organization any longer.
LHG = Farhan Zaidi ?

Fair point on Donnie, he probably won't be back given Tyro.
Re: Leone, you are absolutely correct -- he's going to command 2M/yr or more.
Re: Ruf, good call again. My info doesn't list him as A2 but that's what he is. I'd guess 2.5 keeps him.

Cots is badly out of date, and not very reliable anymore. But they do not show Ruf as being Arb eligible.

I was pulling that information from BBRef. They show he is eligible for free agency after 2023 and arbitration this year.

The BBRef dat is not clear at all. It says he is a free agent in 2024. Does that mean going into the 2024 season (‘23 / ‘24 off season) or after the 2024 season (‘24 / ‘25 season)? It also says Arb eligible 2022. What does that mean? When Arb ends? When it starts? Going into ‘22 or coming out of ‘22?

going by Cots, he avoided arb for the first time last year (aka A1). I'm assuming A2 this year and A3 next. Free agent in 2024

Some notable Giants who are now out of minor league options: LaMonte Wade Jr., Steven Duggar, Thairo Estrada, Mauricio Dubón, Tyler Beede.

I'd imagine one or two will be traded and Beede will be dfa'd

You don't see Dubon or Davis being dfa candidates? Both seem to have gotten lost in the org's depth charts. Maybe they keep them a little bit longer for depth or dfa if they happen to go hog wild on signing free agents.

A little more on Rule 5 eligible guys, the following would need to be protected this year: Tristan Beck, Prelander Berroa, Seth Corry, Matt Frisbee, Sean Hjelle, Michael Plassmeyer, Kai-Wei Teng, Trent Toplikar, Keaton Winn, Jake Wong, Sean Roby, David Villar, Bryce Johnson and Heliot Ramos. Now I know that a few of these guys who we thought would get protected (when we projected a couple of years ago) aren't that exciting any longer but maybe the number of guys who do get protected will be closer to 6 or 7. That means a few more dfa's then Jackson and maybe Beede.
So this is the more complete list of Rule 5 guys. Ramos, Hjelle, Beck and Frisbee are locks. Corry probably?

The rest....I wouldn't think they'd protect.

I don’t think Dubon or Davis get DFA’d. Davis was hurt all year, so ‘21 is a wash. They org has been so high on this kid, I have a hard time seeing them bail on him after one lost season. I think the org likes Dubon. He is an amazing athlete. He just gets a bit crazy with the plays he tries to make sometimes. maybe he ends up being a depth casualty, that is hard to judge, but I don’t think he will be a jettison like Dick will be.

As for 40 adds, I don’t have much of an opinion that. Losing ‘20 has made following the farm a tough task. It may take me another year or so get my feet back under me.

Assuming your list is accurate and all encompassing, I would think Corry, Hjelle, Teng, Beck, Ramos and Villar are locks. Some of the others may be locks as well, I just don’t have a handle on the farm. Where is Wilson in regards to needing to be added?
Was reading today that Wilson isn't an issue til next year.

I've been working on a full list of Rule 5 guys in the farm. I'm waiting to see if the Giants do the obligatory mass release by early November before completing it. I don't think Beck is a lock but there are a few other guys to seriously consider.

I don't like how BBRef does this. They list the season AFTER arbitration and free agency. I don't know if this is industry standard but they count the offseason year by the season it precedes.
