Caps took Chesley at 37 (the pick we traded them).

I'm ok with stocking up on dmen, they're always a commodity.

thats all we have are dmen, we have a plethora of them in the system... signing them as FAs too have been consistent...

The way I look at it is we have centers, Jack, Nico, Mercer, to a lesser extent Zacha. Wingers are always available. So why not stock up on D?

Let's hope he's right. I'm oddly optimistic about Blackwood. If we can get by with Blackwood, Vanecek and Bernier is serviceable and we can use more cap dollars in front of them.

With the actual talent dropping in availability, I sense a porous off-season FA period ahead

All the guys I still want are out there. Dream list is:

1) Nichuskin. Size, skill, absolutely dominated in the playoffs, only 27. Sounds like Avs are working on an extension though.

2) Palat. The championship vet winger that I've been begging for us to get for years. Still has gas in the tank, amazing playoff performer, exactly what a young team needs.

3) Klingberg. He can be the dependable, not flashy vet we've desperately needed on D. First in with our big defenseman, has playoff experience, throw him on the penalty kill with Sieg and they'll be lights out. Much rather throw money at him than Subban.

I remember the goalie Vanecek but yea I couldn't tell you if its great or not. Im pretty sure he's not an undisputed starter therefore why?

Rather gone for Campbell who just had a solid playoff run for TOR.

Not good moves thus far, maybe the dividends will pay in 4 years but going forward I see no improvements... FA is still to come but that could be another disaster.

Totally disagree on Campbell. He faded badly in teh second half and he's a good bit older thatn Vanacek

Holtz and Zetterlund are hopefully mainstays next year. Which should make Zacha expendable. Also wouldn't mind flipping Andreas Johnson to whichever team whiffs in free agency.

Johnny Hockey out in Calgary which means he's coming home. Personally I prefer to spread that money out. Max Domi, Brendan Lemieux, Ondrej Palat. Do it.

We extended qualifying offer so his rights are ours. Could be he's waiting to see if someone will offersheet him in which case we match and sign him. And if not then he probably signs whatever offer we have.

Example let's say we offer him $7 over 8 and someone comes in with an offer sheet of $9 over 7, well the other team essentially just negotiated a pay raise for him. That's my guess.
