Celtics fans believe they would be unbeaten throughout their history if not for bad calls by refs. Celtics fans even blame the refs for the Pitino era.:D
I remember being pretty excited when Pitino became our coach...

... "He's gonna bring full court press defense to the NBA, and it's gonna work like gangbusters!"

:D :D :D

Well that’s one of the stupider cliches out there

Yep. Like @The Q said...if it's foul in the first 6 minutes, it should be a foul in the last 6. But plenty of folks think the refs should swallow their whistles at the end of games.

He was 5 feet away.

If he didn’t see it, he’s not very good at his job or crumbles under pressure.

Either way, the bright lights might actually be to bright for this guy and he either needs glasses or to be remediated.

Have you officiated?

Pretty sure the answer is no.

Just totally false man! The only times the refs screwed the Celtics was during the '85, '87, & '10 Finals.

And if he makes that call, many people, especially Celtics fans, would be saying "You can't make that call. You have to let the players decide the game".
Absolutely.

But, they had no problem making the correct call, albeit hella late, when Brown was hit on the head.

No consistency.

We are talking minutes, REAL TIME, later.

Some of the calls we piss and moan over are bang bang plays.

This was not that.

It’s sports.

People who love something are usually emphatic and dramatic.

I see ambivalence and being an apologist equally as frustrating.

If I don’t do my job correctly, I get punished.

These clowns should as well.

The league handles officials behind the scenes, as they should.

People here assume that just because the NBA isn’t discussing sanctions publicly that they don’t exist.

That is a poor assumption.

So, you are no more an authority than I.

Umm…

Point being, the people here who have officiated before are all saying it is way harder than it looks.

Not a coincidence that the people sounding off on officials haven’t done it.

Listen, the difference between Pitino being a Celtics Coaching Legend and not is the bounce of the ping pong balls.

You got pre-big shot Billups and Ron Mercer instead of Duncan….lol

I don't really blame them on that one though. In real time, I thought the ball was hit. It wasn't until they slowed it down that I saw that he was hit in the head.

I could see where the ref might need a couple of extra seconds to make sure he saw what he thought he did.

the standard nba missed calls too.

Even that AD foul i hated i can see your point there but a play that's right in front of you? Nope

Stop the ass kicking and own up and say they missed a call that you can't miss as the NBA did immediately after. You just keeping making excuses

Some of you just aren’t getting it. Referees make mistakes so why not tweak the challenge system in the final minutes so a play like this never happens…hell, rarely happens is good with me. The final 2 minutes are the glaring point. I could give a shit about a full game unless it is extremely one-sided, that shit happens but who cares-big picture.
Who is "some of you"? Has anyone argued not to change the challenge system?

When have I said they didn’t miss the call?

Seriously, try some officiating. It will do you a lot of good.

You’re a clown. A last second play after the teams played an even game is going to be highlighted. Who cares about what happened before. Players missed shots oj both teams, both teams made TO’s, both teams made mistakes, both teams worked their ass of to get to that point…then it was decided by a human that 99% of other humans make the right call and he didn’t. Not to mention, there were 3-4 other humans that could have collaborated together in a huddle to make the right call, an easy call, but no they didn’t. And we wonder why the product then NBA puts on the court is it’s lowest in a long time. You keep thinking a missed shot with 2:46 in the 3rd decided this game LOL idiot
What are you talking about in the bloded? Ratings sure aren't suffering. And we've already explained why people THINK officiating is worse now than in the past, when it actually isn't.

Sure, make some changes, let them keep their challenge if they get it right (max of 3 per game?), maybe even give them an extra in the last 2 minutes. But no matter what reasonable changes are made calls will get blown even late in close games and you will keep losing your mind.

Yeah, this doesn't really work. tlance isn't saying anything about the players or claiming he could do better than an NBA player.

But there are folks here who have never been referees that seem to think they could do better.

Yep... better to be lucky than good... all too often.
The role of luck in sports is VERY underappreciated. Most of our narratives would have been very different without some lucky breaks.

All sports should be paying close attention to what the nfl is doing with the expedited review. Technology is a wonderful thing.
