It’s a foul.

Defender didn’t go straight up

But he also 100% traveled before that.

He might have lifted his pivot before the dribble, but afterwards he gathered and within his two elongated steps. That's deemed legal these days.

They can still give them a moderate bump in salary.

But yeah those 3 have a 12m cap hold as well. So that 32m in cap space is 20 just off them

Bryant was making 3/$25M on his last contract. I would assume he would be looking for at least that this summer again. If the Lakers could extend Turner as part of the trade, then that trade makes sense if they don't think they can keep Bryant. Bryant isn't Turner's equal, but he's a reasonable approximation on a budget.

They could use Russ’s salary. 2 firsts and like 4-5 seconds and probably come away with beal and Conley if they really wanted to

The hard part is turning nunn and Jones and remaining seconds into a 3/4

Nunn and a second for Reddish, sign Favors?

Not if they made the trade now

They’d still have bird rights to keep reaves, Bryant and walker

If they wait for the summer, they will have additional challenges

I'd rather use that cap space throughout the roster instead of at one position. When your top two are Lebron and AD, you need flexibility to replace them when they miss games.

And Jimmy leaves his feet before the defender does. It’s impossible for position to be established for him to create verticality. He’s not vertical. He’s coming forward. And you already pointed out the arms don’t stay straight up.

Yep easy call to make if this is your job. So easy fans can make it as well. Not a bang bang call. Damn easy call to make and see

Right now you have 4 players under contract for next year

If you trade Russ and picks for beal that’s now 5

But you’d have the bird rights to keep bev and reaves and maybe walker (he could get monk’d though) and have a legit 8 man rotation, plus the mle to make it 9

And making centers like favors and d12 as cheap backups could make it a really solid rotation.

I thought the gather step was for catching the ball.

These made for tv rule changes are dumb as hell

Nba is closer to slamball than college and hs hoops

I hate them too. The jump stop is especially egregious. It's up and down under old rules. The majority of step back jumpers are traveling too.

Yes. The nba specifically changed the rules for Lebrons crab dribble and the Ginobili bullshit in like 2008 or 09.

I believe They are still the only league in the world that allows 2 steps (or more with gather).

Every other one is you have one step and can lift your pivot foot to pass or shoot, and that’s it.

I never got why they added a jump stop to the rule book either, and yes most step backs are just 2 complete steps. But since people see it on tv it gets called far too little at the amateur level

To be fair, college and especially high school hoops are almost unwatchable.

Sooooooo…

Let me make sure I have this straight…

A 6ppg rapidly declining, undersized guard , a trash as fuck 4 ppg undersized shooting guard and a kid that’s currently in the 6th grade is too high a price for a guy averaging 21 ppg that’s shooting 41% from 3?

The lack of shooting makes it rough

But it’s…actually basketball

College would be more watchable if you let guys take 4 steps as well.

What college kid is stopping Zion with 4 steps?

Fair enough, it's just not very entertaining to see kids learning the game vs seeing the very best players in the world.

Alright, I will say it.

If the Lakers are too cheap to make a deal like this one…

I am going out on a limb to predict they don’t win another title with the current ownership group.
