I was joking about Lebron getting traded in July.

But, the Lakers seem like they have zero fucks to give about his passive aggressive nonsense.

They are dumb as fuck.

The way the cap is structured and with their current construction, they actually have MORE flexibility if they make a trade now. To keep it short, they have roughly 60 to 65 mil in moveable contracts to acquire talent with right now via trades. If you wait until the offseason, you're going to have 30 mil in cap space. And because of how they (foolishly) structured Reaves contract, some of that cap is gonna be needed to re-sign him because he's not bird rights eligible. It doesn't have to be a trade for a star player to make you instant contenders. You need to acquire players to improve the roster and build from there. Hell, the way Lebron and AD were playing pre-injury, if you got enough role players to be a 6 or 7 seed you could reasonably conclude you're a title contender since those two were MVP level. But that's beside the point, the point is you do deals now to allow yourself to keep building. You don't do it in one swoop. It's about making yourself better now and you'll have chances to improve more later.

So what's a better option to build a team around Lebron/AD for now thru the next 2 years:

2 tradeable picks and tradeable contracts worth 65 mil

30 mil in cap space with no contracts to trade but just picks.

The better option is #1. You have more flexability getting role players to fill out the team moving people like Westbrook. If you get guys on expirings back, you can use bird rights to re-sign them. If you choose option 2, you'll eat some money re-signing Reaves so that'll probably take you down to 25 mil left, maybe less. If you sign someone like Kuz, that's probably 12 to 15 mil per. Congrats, now you've used half your space on two players already. Your option quickly narrow with option 2.

Basically, its front office malfeasance to not trade Westbrook and whatever other package you can throw together to acquire as many role players as possible. The only logical explanation to not doing this is they do not care about winning and just want to get under the luxury tax. They are fine with losing, not paying the tax, and think the fan base will still buy tickets/tune in just because Lebron is there.
