Chafin would have been a reliever I would have liked to see the Giants get. There are a couple others on the Cubs, besides Kimbrel, that seem like interesting pickups - Ryan Tepera and Dan Winkler. However, Winkler would feel strange getting, primarily because FZ dumped him a couple years ago, without giving him a chance. He was doing well that year in AAA too, and he didn't get a look.
If FZ thinks it's different now with Winkler then good for him...

We need a 9th inning guy though

There is really only one out there…Kimbrel.

And I don’t think FZ is willing to give up Bart or Ramos to get him.

FZ might not but I'd be happy to give up Bart for him. Won't be enough though.

We may indeed have to try to win in the playoffs with a mix and match approach in the 9th and extras

I haven’t heard anything specific to the playoffs, but that is the rule this year. Why would that rule NOT be used in the playoffs?

I'm thinking it will be the same... but the NHL handles playoff overtimes differently than the regular season.

As does the NFL.

but the NHL and NFL allow ties with their regular season overtime rules. MLB does not.

See ya around Ramos, Bart, and Estrada...

Not saying I wouldn't but that's the price we're looking at

The cost for him wasn't that high. The Mariners are trying to cover their butts with a "don't look at this trade by itself, it will start a series of trades to improve the club both now and for the future" statement.

What's FZ's excuse then?

Agreed. He’s another UFA after this year. I’d only do it with an extension. He plays 5 positions capably (although we wouldn’t need him to play CF) and is a legit all-star.
