This is the type of return that reminds me that there is no way in hell it will cost Bart AND Ramos to land Scherzer. And even Bart alone is probably more than he would cost. Rentals just don’t cost what we couch-jockeys tend to think they cost.

Chapman for Torres is the unicorn that really doesn’t exist anymore.

Good point. Maybe Bart is enough for Scherzer then...and is that a good idea? We really need pitching.
Maybe the Giants could put together a package of Logan Wyatt, Kervin Castro and Jimmy Glowenke for Scherzer. It would give the Nationals breadth to re-stock the farm and would all be from the lower half of the Giants' top 30 prospects.

Latest is that we are in on Trevor Story and would play him in the OF.

This seems like a bad idea on several levels:

1. He’s only played SS in the majors
2. He’s a terrible hitter away from Coors
3. He’s a rental.

Hard pass

That sounds fun but many other teams would crush that offer

Yep. I want the White Sox to get him to play 2B, their guy is out for the year. But he has no place here. We don't need position players!

Wouldn’t go that far. We can use a LF.
Not really, when all the injured guys are back there won't be a lot of room, we can play people like Wade and Flores and LaStella and even Ruf there. We need Wade in the lineup every day vs righties for example, and Belt will be at first (especially vs righties)

Need to use our trade assets on pitching.

I’m not sure we get above average production from a combination of Dick/Tok/Wade/Flores/Ruf in LF.

But, you may be right; maybe we have enough.

Several folks think we have the inside track to Mighty Max, so we shall see. I don’t want to give up Bart, Ramos, Luciano, Bishop or Corry.

I’d like to avoid dealing Bailey, Matos, Harrison, Toribio, and Canario.

It’s gonna hurt; gotta trust FZ.

Tauchmann is surely getting removed when all the others come back.

But in season experiments have worked wonderfully, just ask Tauchman and his bat.

I have heard that a lot of teams are fishing for Harrison. He looks like an Uber-stud. Maybe blue-chip level good.

I doubt Bishop has any trade value at all right now. He has pretty legit injury concerns at this point. He probably only has lotto-ticket level value in a trade, and no way would the Gs give up on him for that level return.

Not sure Bailey has much trade value either at this point. He has not performed well at all yet professionally. He will need to show SOMETHING before he would have any trade value.

Luciano is probably the org’s #1 asset. He is not going anywhere. Unless the Angels call and are floating Trout or Shoei as potential returns.

May not be too off, considering the return the Marlins got on Marte (remember that they also sent money over to Oakland). Luzardo was the top ranked A's prospect, though, two year ago.

A bunch of high level lotto tix might be a good idea. I saw somewhere that the Nats farm system is rated in the bottom 3 or 4 in all of baseball. Getting an influx of bulk might be something they would like.

Astros got Graveman, and now they just got the Marlins closer Garcia. FZ what's the story here?

Gotta say, FZ, you realize we don't need any bats this year, right? I get Bryant might be a good player to add but you can always sign him after the season. Why are the Astros grabbing all the not-expensive closers?

Jon Morosi:

The #SFGiants are well-positioned to add a bat, and sources say they remain engaged on the Trevor Story and Kris Bryant trade possibilities. Today's events help the Giants' leverage, since the #Yankees (known to have interest in Story) are working to finalize the Gallo deal.
