Jon Morosi:

The #SFGiants are well-positioned to add a bat, and sources say they remain engaged on the Trevor Story and Kris Bryant trade possibilities. Today's events help the Giants' leverage, since the #Yankees (known to have interest in Story) are working to finalize the Gallo deal.
@MLB
Haven't looked at their rankings but a bunch of minor leaguers are heading over to the Yankees. That probably raises the price on both Bryant and Story, since they are arguably better hitters than Gallo.

The names rumored to be going from the Yankees to the Rangers include the Yankees #14, #15, #17, #23, #28 and an unranked prospect, based on the MLB rankings. The Yankees get Joey Gallo and Josh King (a reliever) in return.
For comparison sake, that would be like the Giants trading Jairo Pomares, Nick Swiney, Logan Wyatt, Grant McCray, Ricardo Genoves and Ghordy Santos for an outfielder hitting free agency after 2022 and a relief pitcher with 5 years left of control.

Don't worry, that is not a done deal on the Padres' part.
You know what else is not a done deal? Anything involving the Giants. Let's go, FZ!

By the way, the Rangers are paying for the entire salaries of both Gallo and Rodriguez, in order to get 4 of the Yankees' prospects from the 14 to 28 ranked range. And the Yankees get, beyond 2021, one more year of control on Gallo and 5 more years on Rodriguez (who has not looked good this year).

This article lays it out pretty well:

Nats just dealt Brad Hand to the Blue Jays for one AAA guy.

FZ has GOT to be all in on Scherzer

Overall, the cost in prospects hasn't been as high as I expected, in trades to this point. However, Riley Adams is supposed to a highly ranked catching prospect but the Blue Jays have a plethora of young catchers and he wasn't as highly ranked as the ones that they kept.

Edit: Not as highly ranked as I thought. He was number 17 on the Blue Jays Top 30.

If you guys are blocked from my Athletic link, they said:

Canario is a 'likely' trade piece
Ramos and Bart are 'possible'
Matos and Harrison are 'unlikely'
Luciano is 'nope'

Here's the final bit:

The Giants have a deep farm system, and it’s a varied one. They can trade pitchers. They can trade hitters. They can trade low-level prospects. They can trade prospects who are close to the majors. They can make minor deals. They can compete with every team in baseball if they want to make a jaw-dropping deal.

This might be the hardest trade deadline to predict for the Giants since, well, ever, so we probably shouldn’t be surprised by anything, but some prospects are a better fit for the 2021 deadline than others. Adjust your expectations accordingly.

Bryant and Rizzo not in Cubs lineup

Scherzer pitching now
Sure he can pitch today and be traded tomorrow. My spidey sense is really tingling on that one. Why else hasn't FZ done anything yet?

Plan B if we don't get Scherzer?

Don't forget about Gibson: For those teams that bail out on the Max Scherzer or Jose Berrios sweepstakes, Kyle Gibson remains a solid Plan B. The veteran right-hander added a new cutter this season, made the All-Star team and has a 2.87 ERA. He is coming off three poor starts in a row, however, allowing five runs to the Tigers, then eight runs to Detroit, then walking eight against the Astros. He is signed through 2022 (at a reasonable $7 million), and the Joey Gallo trade indicates the Rangers have kicked their compete window down the road. Gibson makes a lot of sense for the Mets or Giants (who have four starters hitting free agency after 2021). -- David Schoenfield
