Ngakoue to the Vikings for a 2nd and conditional 5th.

I'd imagine this is going to fire some people up.

I certainly would have been happy if we had made that trade, even on top of the picks we just gave up for Jamal Adams.

Looks like the team is sticking with the current DL. I just don't get it.

Yeah, I guess we will see if they got it right. I know you think they don't, but I think it can work. This off-season's approach is not totally unlike what we did in 2013, and that worked out ok. Now back then we had an other-worldly secondary (but maybe didn't fully know what we had at the time), but this year's group is pretty damn good and certainly the best we have fielded in a few years since the LOB started getting injured. We have a very impressive list of talent at LB as well (though Cody Barton and Jordyn Brooks are unquestionably unproven).

For the DL, we'll need to hit on some younger guys maybe earlier in their careers than what might be normal. I think Bruce Irvin and Benson Mayowa could easily triple the sack totals we got last year out of Clowney & Ansah. Irvin & Mayowa should each end up with 6+ w/o too much trouble unless they miss lots of time. Behind them, we'll probably need 2 out of the group of LJ Collier, Rasheem Green, Alton Robinson, and Darrell Taylor to play well. If Collier can't get it going this year with the motivation he should have coming in, then he's probably a bust. I think all Green needs to do is continue to show improvement on the same arc he's done so far and he should be a check mark. And I don't really like relying on rookies for much of anything (except at RB), but it seems the coaches have been impressed with Robinson in camp. I am not convinced it's all going to work out, but I'm also not sure it won't. Far from it.

Without preseason games i"m thinking by week 3 we should have a good idea how the D-line will do for the rest of the season.

I really hope you are correct. I think the DL will be a little better than last year but it was really bad last year.

Man if LJ Collier doesn't step up and figuring things out our DL is trashed. Our 2nd round pick taylor doesn't look like he will be ready so we will definitely be relying on Rasheem Green, Collier and Benson

This is my big concern. It just seems to me that we are expecting several players to really step up their games this year.

These players NEED to step up their game ( the younger guys ) start showing you were not a worthless pick. Tired of seeing higher draft picks failing on us so often.

But Taylor not being ready is mitigated by Alton Robinson having a good camp and looking like he may be able to do what we hoped Taylor could as a rookie. It's a wash.

I think we need 2 guys to step up their game at DE and then Irvin & Mayowa to more or less mimic what they did last season. Irvin may be a more sure thing for that as he's been a pretty consistent 6-8 sack guy for nearly his whole career, and Mayowa got 7 last season (plus 3 FF) despite not starting a single game. Let's not forget that the QB menacing 2013 defense only had 3 guys on the DL with 5+ sacks, and Bennett was the team leader with only 8.5.

I'm fine with Irvin/Mayowa as pass rush specialists. I suspect our pass rush will be a little better this year than last year, which isn't saying much. But I think our run defense will have some real problems unless Collier and Green really step up their game.

For me, the run D is a bit harder to gauge or predict when we have had 0 pre-season games and very limited practice coverage to see what we have at DT. I do know that Jamal Adams is going to help with that, and Puna Ford & Jarran Reed are both solid against the run. I don't know much beyond that regarding the middle of the DL. The book on Collier coming out of TCU was that he was a strong run defender.

While I am not Debbie Downer on the DL, I would agree that if this teams falls short of expectations it will likely be due to one or both lines.

I believe Green is the sleeper... I think he's going to step up personally... He's rumored to having a very good camp... He came on last season the 2nd half and played really well...

I am still not buying the AB story. If we were in serious need of a top WR target then it might make some sense, but we aren't. And I just don't think you bring in a nutjob like that to be at best your WR3.

Britt coming back would be ok I guess, but I am wondering if that is a referendum on the 2 guys who have supposedly been battling for the starting center job in camp. Or maybe we have an idea of putting him back out at RT where he began his career? He failed there, but he's not the same player today. Only 10 days until game 1, so the timing of this isn't really ideal either.
