I think the only way Kobe would have wanted Shaq back if Shaq said he would take a back seat to Kobe, even then I doubt he wants to play with Shaq because ultimately coaches would defer to the monster in the middle. It's interesting that Phil had to leave too if this wasn't all about Kobe.

Phil leaving had a little to do with Kobe, no doubt. But Phil also came back and won 2 more titles with Kobe.

Bottom line, both Kobe and Shaq let their ego's get in the way and neither of them acted in the most mature fashion at the time.

If they had it to do over again, I think it's pretty safe to say that each would have handled things a little differently.

I think Phil leaving did have to do with Kobe. Kobe wasn't interested in running the triangle anymore because he wanted the freedom to lead his own team. That's why Phil was dispensable.

I just said that his leaving had to do with Kobe. However, Kobe wasn't the sole reason he left. Some of it had to do with the level of expectations, pressure, etc.

He had gone from being expected to win the title every season in Chicago to being expected to win a title every season in Los Angeles.

Add to that coaching 2 of the more "willful" players in NBA history, the Shaq/Kobe stuff and that he was starting to have health issues...

the guy probably needed a break. lol

Oh, sorry about that.

Yeah, Phil did need a break and I believe he had some health issues too which could factored into it.

No worries.

Yeah, I think that was when his back issues were beginning to get worse.

There isn't a single top 15 player on team USA roster. Man I hope they lose just so I can see all these loser players who withdrew bitch on social media how it won't happen again and etc as they did following the 2004 Olympics.

Players that have committed
  • Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics)
  • Mason Plumlee (Denver Nuggets)
  • Marcus Smart (Boston Celtics)
  • Thaddeus Young (Chicago Bulls)
  • Harrison Barnes (Sacramento Kings)
  • Kyle Kuzma (Los Angeles Lakers)
  • Brook Lopez (Milwaukee Bucks)
  • Kyle Lowry (Toronto Raptors)
  • Khris Middleton (Milwaukee Bucks)
  • Donovan Mitchell (Utah Jazz)
  • Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics)
  • P.J. Tucker (Houston Rockets)
  • Myles Turner (Indiana Pacers)
  • Kemba Walker (Boston Celtics)
  • Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat)

Plumlee, Young, and either Smart or Tucker shouldn't make the final roster IMO

Should add Beasley for bench scoring.

I'm not sure that team will even medal.

What a hometown discount. This Max is much more reasonable than the max he could have commanded after the season. If he got an all nba spot or won dpoy he could have been eligible for 5yrs 225M. 4 years at 25M per is likely the best outcome for both parties without either getting upset at the free agent process.

That team should still win.

Have long thought that a team of solid NBA role players that played together every summer would be just as good as the “all star” model where a few of the top dogs beg out.
