and how much success have the Heat had without Wade on the roster? Know who has had more recent success between the 2 teams?

Herro looks solid, though pretty sure Fultz did in summer league for stretches so who knows? Heat definitely seem like they are very good in the draft. Imagine the team they could have built if picking high and not in the teens nearly every year.

Heat became a franchise 16 years after the Cavs did, yet have had way more success.

SA is more like Cleveland than they are like Miami
Well, they are more like Miami in that they have multiple titles not just one lucky one due to an accident of birth location

But you said they stayed away because they only had a 1.7% chance to win the lottery. That is factually incorrect. You were wrong. Not in you to say so. Not surprised.

Never said that.
I said, in essence, the Cavs got lucky when they moved to #1 when there was a 98.3% chance it wouldn’t happen.

And there was even more went into that title than that.

LOL.

Their market is more like Cleveland though.

Better than Cleveland, but closer to Cleveland than Miami

Um, KD is the same age as Butler and won't be playing until he's 32. And has just as much miles on him

Probably more miles. KD teams made more deep runs in the playoffs. Not including this year due to his injury, he made the finals 3X and I know he made at least one conference finals another time. Furthest Butler got in the playoffs was the 2nd round 3X

I'm sure @Bolts would.

I'm ok with losing for maybe 2-3 seasons or so but when it starts approaching nearly 10 years of losing and missing out on the playoffs? Yeah I'll pass
It's now at a bakers dozen for the Kings, 13 years no playoffs. And the best season during that time they still fell just short of a .500 record. Do I want the team to peak at 6-8 seed and maybe pulling off first round exits? Of course not, but I'd have taken getting swept by the Warriors this year if it meant the Kings were in the playoffs(still got swept in the reg. season by 12 points total). For a team like the Kings the road to being title contenders starts by getting in as a 6-8 seed, they can't big market their way from lottery to title contender like the Lakers.

Also as been proven by many teams including the Kings, getting top 8 picks for 5+ years in a row doesn't automatically push you to the next level.

@WiggyRuss @Heatles84 @TurnUpTheHeat

Can we end this debate already?

It is like the biggest apples to oranges comparison ever.

Teams like the Cavs have to build a core through the draft and invest in future assets before they have any chance of signing/trading for the types of players that can help them compete beyond NBA purgatory.

The Heat do not. The cost of teams like the Heat taking the anti-tank approach is minimal. Because as soon as they clear their books they are threats to reload with big name free agents. The Heat do not have to rely on building through the draft, or “tanking” if you will.

And for every example of a non-destination market to find sustained success like the Warriors and Spurs, guess where their runs started? By building a core of players/tradable assets through the draft.

Ive never tried to convince anyone of anything.
I just state my preference.

Exactly. Kings and Suns are perfect examples of this.

Minnesota also. If they didn't trade for Butler, I'm pretty sure they would still be in that playoffs drought

“but id rather my team get Lonzo Ball or Markelle Fultz or Josh Jackson---- and have a significant shot at having a franchise altering talent. Ill take sacrifice the extra 15-20 wins- ESPECIALLY when neither team you made the playoffs anyway---- to be able to get a Jackson who will have a chance to be my teams centerpiece for the next 7 years at a minimum.”

@WiggyRuss
How did that crystal ball prediction work out?

Jackson. Centerpiece.

Im not knocking you having the opinion, just pointing out that often times what are perceived team changers, aren’t.

Calling Jackson a franchise altering talent/centerpiece is hilarious. Saw dude at Kansas and knew he would be nothing special in the league.
